Wellington Firebirds Preview

Wellington has started the season with a terrific win against Canterbury Kings but has then faced two losses in a row – against Central Stags and then Canterbury. In their previous game, they could only manage 151-9 after choosing to bat first and then let the opposition chase the target in just 16.3 overs.

Wellington’s batting performance has been shoddy in the last two matches. Barring Troy Johnson, none of the others have made an impact. The likes of Finn Allen, Luke Georgeson, Nathan Smith, and skipper Michael Bracewell really need to step up.

Their bowling has been marginally better, but it has still not been enough. Hamish Bennett and Nathan Smith haven’t been as effective as the opening strike bowlers. Logan van Beek continues to be their most reliable bowler but he needs support from the likes of Ben Sears and Peter Younghusband.

Wellington Firebirds Predicted Playing XI:

Finn Allen (wk), Luke Georgeson, Troy Johnson, Michael Bracewell (c), Nathan Smith, Jamie Gibson, Tim Robinson, Logan van Beek, Peter Younghusband, Hamish Bennett, Ben Sears

Auckland Aces Preview

Auckland Aces have played both their games against Northern Knights this season so far and have lost both of them. In their last match, they were shot out for a paltry 92 and then lost the encounter by 6 wickets. Tail-ender Lockie Ferguson’s 26 was the highest score in the game for them. This batting unit is overly dependent on star opener Martin Guptill. If he doesn’t work, then the others look pretty fragile. They do have some talent in the form of George Worker, Mark Chapman, Cole Briggs, and captain Robert O’Donnell, but they really need t start making contributions now.

Auckland has Lockie Ferguson in their bowling unit. Ben Lister along with Adithya Ashok and Louis Delport has also done a decent job. But they need someone who can take regular wickets.  Perhaps an inspired spell by Ferguson in this game would trigger the change they desperately need.

Auckland Aces Predicted Playing XI:

Martin Guptill, George Worker, Mark Chapman, Robert O’Donnell (c), Ben Horne (wk), Sean Solia, Cole Briggs, Louis Delport, Lockie Ferguson, Adithya Ashok, Ben Lister
