West Indies is all set to welcome England for a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series after their 2-1 defeat against Sri Lanka in both series. The series' first game will be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua, on 1 November from 11:30 p.m. onwards. Jose Butler, who was set to make his comeback, has been ruled out of the series due to the calf injury he sustained earlier this year. Liam Livingstone has been named as the skipper for the visitors.

West Indies played their last ODI against Sri Lanka two days back. Trailing 2-0, West Indies restricted Sri Lanka to 156 for losing three wickets. The rain forced West Indies to chase a revised target of 195 runs which they successfully chased with 8 wickets and 6 balls in hand. Opener Evin Lewis scored a 61-ball century while adding 88 runs with Sherfane Rutherford for the third wicket in 7.3 overs.

England’s last outing in ODIs came against Australia in September where they lost the series 3-0. In the series decider, England scored 309 after a century from Ben Duckett. Skipper Harry Brook scored 72 off 52 balls hitting 7 sixes. In return, Australia managed to score 165 runs in 20.4 overs for the loss of two wickets to win the game by 49 runs (D/L Method). Matthew Potts and Brydon Carse took a wicket each.

The two teams played their last ODI against each other back in 2023 at Bridgetown. Batting first, England managed to score 209 runs for the loss of 9 wickets where Duckett scored 71 runs. Matthew Forde and Alzarri Joseph took three wickets each for West Indies. Romario Shepherd scored 41 off 28 balls in the end to help West Indies chase the revised target of 191 runs in 31.4 overs. Will Jacks took three wickets for twenty-two runs.

Along with Jose Butler, England’s leading run-scorer of this year, Harry Brook, will miss the ODI series. Jordan Cox and Rehan Ahmed have been added as a replacement for the white-ball series.

West Indies Preview

West Indies players will have a huge task to travel back to Antigua from Sri Lanka after losing the series and facing England. The West Indies Cricket Board is yet to announce the squad, but it looks like they will go unchanged. Brandon King will open the innings with Evin Lewis.  Lewis scored a century in the last game against Sri Lanka. He has 231 runs in 7 innings against England including his highest score of 176 runs back in 2017.

Skipper Shai Hope will come at number three. Hope has 5209 runs in 127 ODIs at an average of 49.14 with 16 hundreds. Against England, he averages 37.07. In their last series against England, Hope scored 192 runs in three games with a century and a half-century. Unfortunately, he has been going through a poor form this year scoring 77 runs in 6 games. Sherfane Rutherford will lead the middle order with Roston Chase and Romario Shepherd. Rutherford who has played just 6 ODIs so far, has scored 276 runs at an average of 69 with four half-centuries. He was the leading run-scorer of the tournament against Sri Lanka with an average of 204.

Shepherd played a match-winning knock against England in their last outing. His record against England is pretty impressive. In three games, he has 108 runs at a strike rate of 150. Alzarri Joseph will lead the bowling attack with Jayden Seals, Hayden Walsh, and Gudakesh Motie. Joseph has 13 wickets against England in 6 games, including his career best of five wickets for 56. While Motie is West Indies’ leading wicket-taker this year with 8 wickets in 6 innings at an economy of 4.23 - the lowest among the bowlers.

England Preview

Ben Duckett will open the innings with Phill Salt. Duckett has been in outstanding form in white ball. In the 5 ODIs played this year, Duckett has scored 305 runs at a strike rate of 109.71. On the other hand, Salt is struggling with the bat scoring just 96 runs in 5 innings. Will Jacks will come at number three.  Jacks has 156 runs this year in 5 ODIs at a strike rate of 99.36. Against West Indies, he has 116 runs and three wickets with the ball.

Liam Livingstone will have a huge role in the middle. Livingstone has 170 runs in the last 8 ODIs at a strike rate of 119.71. He will partner with Sam Curran. Curran has scored 50 runs in three innings against West Indies and has taken three wickets so far. Jordan Cox, who made his international debut last month in England's T20I series against Australia, is expected to earn his first ODI cap in the Caribbean.

Reece Topley is set to take the lead in the bowling department with Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton. In the last 9 ODIs, he has 13 wickets at an economy of 6.11. Jofra Archer has struggled since his comeback and has three wickets in the last three ODIs he played. Adil Rashid will be the spinner in the team. Rashid is England’s leading wicket-taker since last year. In 9 ODIs he has picked 12 wickets at an economy of 4.84 - the lowest among the bowlers. It will be interesting to see if England picks the Yorkshire sensation Jafer Chohan who took 17 wickets in 10 games this year including a five-for on his birthday with a broken thumb.

Key Players: Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Adil Rashid.

Weather Conditions

The weather will be sunny. The temperature will range between 25 and 30. The wind will be flowing from the west at 10-15 kmh.  The stadium has been known for its batting-friendly pitches. Batsmen often enjoy good pace and bounce, making it conducive for stroke play. The ball tends to come onto the bat nicely, allowing for aggressive shots and high-scoring matches.

As the game progresses and the pitch begins to wear, spinners can come into play. Mumbai's hot and humid conditions can cause the pitch to deteriorate, leading to assistance for spinners, particularly in the latter stages.

WI vs ENG Pitch Report

The 1st ODI of the series will be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua, on 1 November from 11:30 p.m. onwards. The venue has a capacity of 10,000 spectators and has hosted 12 Tests, 37 ODIs, & 37 T20Is. West Indies have recorded the highest total on the ground (326) against England.

Toss: To Bowl

In 37 ODIs, the results have favored the teams chasing the target. The teams batting second have won the games 19 times. The average first innings score is 229. The team winning the toss should bowl first.

Though West Indies have a home advantage, they will be traveling from Sri Lanka to face England. They are coming with a 2-1 loss in both ODIs and T20I series. But the consolidation win has raised their hopes. England will be playing without their key players. They will depend on the top-order, and exclusively on Ben Duckett.

We predict that England will defeat West Indies.
