West Indies did not automatically qualify for the Super 12 this year. They fielded a solid-looking T20I squad in the last World Cup but were a big failure.
Scotland, on the other hand, have only played a couple of T20Is which they lost to NZ at home. The opposition, filled with players who were the top performers in CPL, will be a force to reckon with for Scotland.
There are some promising names in the Scotland side such as George Munsey, Callum McLeod, Matthew Cross, and the skipper himself, Richie Berrington.
However, the performances have been disappointing whenever they’re up against a strong side. In the home series against New Zealand, the bowlers conceded 254 runs bowling first.
The West Indies pack a deep batting lineup with some really powerful hitters like Evin Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Johnson Charles, and Odean Smith. If the Scotland bowlers aren’t disciplined with their bowling, the Windies would take them to the cleaners on any given day.
Nicholas Pooran will lead the West Indies in the T20 World Cup in Australia. The wicket-keeper batsman will be without his contemporary, Shimron Hetmyer, who was replaced by Shamarh Brooks after missing the flight to Australia.
The captain will be satisfied with his squad. Though they lost both of their T20Is in the recent Australia series, there are many positives for the side. West Indies can finish at the top of their group in the Round 1 stage. It is less likely for Scotland to pose any threat to the West Indies.
Kyle Mayers and Johnson Charles had opened for the team in recent games. Pooran can think of changing it up a bit and letting Lewis or King also play some games before they take on the bigger guns in Super 12.
While there are four all-rounders in the side, Jason Holder is the most important one. He has plenty of experience and has played some important match-winning knocks in the IPL.
Alzarri Joseph is the in-form bowler to watch out for in this side. He will be key with the new ball and is likely to find early success. Odean Smith can deliver with both bat and ball. His strike rate in the lower order is impressive and he can deliver a big finish for the team.

Scotland has included almost all of their big names from the last edition of the T20 World Cup. However, George Munsey has found a new opening partner in Michael Jones.
There is no Kyle Coetzer this year for Scotland. Matthew Cross and skipper Richie Berrington will be responsible for partnerships in the middle overs. In their last T20I appearances, the lower-order players were among the top contributors in the batting order.
The all-rounder Michael Leask has been the most consistent performer in the middle order for Scotland. Callum MacLeod’s strike rate as a number 5 batsman is worrying. In their last T20I, MacLeod opened the innings while Ollie Harris played at 3 and 5 in the series. Only the MacLeod gambit worked for Scotland.
And though it wasn’t a match-winning knock, the all-rounder did better than other positions. However, the bowlers conceded over 200 runs bowling first in both the T20Is against NZ.
Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt, and Chris Greaves were all expensive and without much of an impact on the game. Scotland need to get Brad Wheal and Josh Davey in the side this time around. It will be an uphill battle against a side like West Indies for Scotland. With their current form, the bowlers are likely to have a tough challenge on their hands.

The pitch offers an equal contest between the bat and the ball. Early on the surface would be slow and is likely to flatten out later. The weather forecast is for showers on the match day with a high of 13 degrees Celsius.
Bellerive Oval in Hobart will host this Round 1 group stage match. The average 1st innings score at this venue is 169 runs. Teams like West Indies can post a 170-plus total on this ground easily. We expect somewhere around 180-185 if West Indies are to bat first.
Teams batting first have won 30 of the 52 BBL matches and 2 of the 3 T20 internationals. Both teams have a strong batting department and for Scotland, their strength lies in the batting.
West Indies have a clear upper hand in this contest. The opposition hasn’t played much cricket since their last T20 World Cup and has hardly any reliable match-winners. The Windies, on the other hand, have a variety of bowlers who can step up and deliver. Akeal Hosein can be a game-changer at this venue. Mayers and Pooran can be lethal in their respective batting positions. Given the strengths and weaknesses of both sides, West Indies start as the clear favourites in our match prediction.
