The limited overs series between West Indies Women and New Zealand Women has followed a pattern – West Indies bats first, is restricted for a low score, and then New Zealand chases the target down with relative ease. That’s exactly what happened in the 3rd T20I as well as New Zealand Women secured another easy win and took a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series. The visitors look to be heading for another series win here after clinching the ODI leg of the tour.
There’s nothing new to write about West Indies Women’s performance. They produced another miserable batting show and while their bowling was better, it wasn’t enough. After being asked to bat first yet again on this slow pitch, the home side could muster only 93-9 in 20 overs. And yet again, captain Hayley Matthews showed some semblance of a fight with her knock of 30 off 28 balls. The remaining batting unit failed and even Kyshona Knight, who top-scored with a 42 in the second match, could only manage 16.
Hayley Matthews led the bowling unit as well and rocked the Kiwi top-order with a spell of 4-12 from 4 overs. But barring Afy Fletcher (1-12 off 4 overs) none of the others could offer her much support. Cherry Ann Fraser’s spell of 0-35 from 3.4 overs turned the game in the visitors’ favor.

New Zealand Women showed why they are such a solid all-round side. In the 3rd T20I, while chasing a modest target of 95, the visitors were rocked early and were reeling at 20-4 from 5.5 overs. While the top order failed, the middle order came to the rescue as Maddy Green’s unbeaten knock of 49 off 45 balls helped them sail through. This performance showed the depth in the Kiwi batting unit and that they aren’t just dependent on their top stars.
New Zealand Women’s bowling has been the most impressive part of this tour. Left-arm spinner Fran Jonas was the pick of the bowlers once again, taking 3-16 from 4 overs. She now has 5 wickets in this series at an economy of just 4. Medium pacers Eden Carson (2-14 off 4 overs) and Suzie Bates (2-5 off 3 overs) also had a great outing. This Kiwi bowling has great variety and depth and will continue to pose challenges to the opposition.

The pitch at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium hasn’t been an ideal T20 surface at all. It’s two-paced and the ball doesn’t come onto the bat easily. As all the matches of the series will be played here, it is bound to get slower. Spinners and medium pacers will enjoy the two-paced nature of the surface.
Some rain and a thunderstorm are expected in Antigua and, therefore, we might get a truncated match.
The team batting first has struggled to put up a decent total at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium this series. So far, the highest total by the team batting first in this series has been 115 by West Indies Women. A target of around 125-130 should be enough going by what we have seen here.
The team batting second has an advantage on this pitch. So the captain winning the toss is likely to field first.
New Zealand Women have been superior in all the departments to West Indies Women in this series. Their batting has plenty of depth and their bowlers have excelled in these conditions. The home side has struggled primarily due to their batting. If their middle and lower order doesn’t start playing as a unit, another series loss looks imminent
Expect New Zealand Women to register another comfortable win.
