New Zealand Women have started their tour of the West Indies with a solid win in the first ODI. They now lead 1-0 in the 3-match series and will be looking to clinch the series by the second match itself. West Indies Women have some issues to sort out in their batting and can't afford another slipup.

West Indies Women Preview

West Indies Women looked rusty and unimpressive in the first ODI of the series. Despite being the home side, they couldn’t take advantage of the conditions while batting and could only post 168-7 on the board in their 35 overs after being asked to bat first in the rain-reduced match. The top and middle order failed miserably and were it not for the contributions down the order by Chinelle Henry (44 off 34 balls) and Kyshona Knight (36 off 61 balls), they would have had a much lower total.

The Windies' bowlers were a little better but still couldn’t stop the opposition from sailing home. Captain Hayley Matthews was the one who stood out. The off-spinner kept a check on the Kiwi batters with a spell of 3-28 from 7 overs. Afy Fletcher (1-27 off 7 overs) was also good.

West Indies Women Predicted Playing XI:

Hayley Matthews (c), Rashada Williams (wk), Stafanie Taylor, Natasha McLean, Afy Fletcher, Kyshona Knight, Chinelle Henry, Karishma Ramharack, Shamilia Connell,

West Indies Women Actual Playing XI:

Karishma Ramharack, Afy Fletcher, Natasha McLean, Kyshona Knight, Shabika Gajnabi, Shamilia Connell, Chinelle Henry, Shakera Selman, Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor, Rashada Williams

New Zealand Women Preview

New Zealand Women couldn’t have asked for a better start to their tour. They were good in all the departments and look confident enough to win this series. They looked comfortable throughout their chase and scored 159-5 in 33 overs, winning the match by 5 runs via the DLS method. Opener Suzie Bates displayed her class with a gutsy 51 off 65 balls. Amelia Kerr was her usual dependable self with an unbeaten knock of 47 off 67 balls. The experienced Sophie Devine scored only 25 but is likely to make a big impression at some point in the series.

The Kiwi bowlers adapted to the wicket much better than the home side. They were economical and kept picking wickets. Jess Kerr (2-29 off 6 overs) and Fran Jonas (2-22 off 7 overs) were the picks of the New Zealand bowlers. Hannah Rowe is another one to watch out for.

New Zealand Women Predicted Playing XI:

Sophie Devine (c), Suzie Bates, Lauren Down, Amelia Kerr, Brooke Halliday, Maddy Green, Hayley Jensen, Isabella Gaze (wk), Jess Kerr, Hannah Rowe, Fran Jonas

New Zealand Women Actual Playing XI:

Brooke Halliday, Hayley Jensen, Lauren Down, Maddy Green, Isabella Gaze, Amelia Kerr, Suzie Bates, Eden Carson, Sophie Devine, Fran jonas, Lea Tahuhu

Weather Conditions

The pitch at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is likely to be slow and low again. Batters would find it difficult to score runs from the start and would need to spend some time in the middle. Spinners would enjoy the slowness of the surface.

A shower and a thunderstorm are expected in Antigua on the day of the match. So another rain-shortened game is on the cards.

Venue Details

The average score batting first at the venue is 239. The team batting first in this match should be looking to set a target of around 250 runs to feel safe.

Toss: To Bowl

With rain expected on the day of the match, the team winning the toss is likely to bowl second.

West Indies Women will have to sort out their batting issues fast if they have to make a comeback in the series. The Kiwi bowlers are enjoying this surface and won’t be easy to dominate. The likes of Stafanie Taylor will really need to step up. New Zealand’s top three look dangerously good and if they get going again, nothing will stop the visitors from clinching the series.

Back New Zealand Women to go 2-0 up.
