Yorkshire would take on Northamptonshire in the 20th game of the Royal London One-Day Cup, 2021 at North Marine Road Ground, Scarborough. The hosts come into this game after a confidence boosting win against Leicestershire where they chased down a big score. Northamptonshire had a poor day at the office losing to Glamorgan in their opening game and would be under pressure here.

Yorkshire have enjoyed a good record against Northamptonshire in the past and have won the last four games between the two sides. They also have their batsmen in good form, and this is a huge boost going into this game. It remains to be seen if Northamptonshire comes up with an improved show and breaks its poor record against Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Preview

Dominic Bess’ side made a strong comeback to the competition. They had gone down against Surrey in their opening game but registered a 7-wicket victory over Leicestershire in the last game. It was a good show by their batsmen where they clinically chased a big total. Bess would like to see better show from his bowlers in this game.

Harry Duke scored a hundred in the last game and shall look to provide a good start along with Will Fraine who also did well. In the middle order Gary Balance and George Hill played well in the last game and they would look to build partnerships here. In Jonathan Tattersall, Matthew Revis and Jack Shutt, the side has good strength down the order.

Their bowling attack was torn apart in the last game and the side would look for a good show from Ben Coad and Matthew Waite. Waite grabbed 5 wickets in the last game, but he was expensive at the start. Bess shall have to bowl tighter lines here and keep the scoring rate under check in the middle overs with Revis, Matthew Pillans and Hill.

Yorkshire Predicted Playing XI:

Dominic Bess (c), Will Fraine, Harry Duke (wk), Matthew Revis, Gary Ballance, George Hill, Jonathan Tattersall, Jack Shutt, Matthew Waite, Mathew Pillans, Ben Coad

Northamptonshire Preview

It was poor efforts with the bat from Ricardo Vasconcelos’ side in the last game against Glamorgan. They lost wickets at regular intervals leading to their 59-run loss in the game. They have a poor record against Yorkshire and Vasconcelos would like to change that with a win in this game.

Openers Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay shall have to provide a good start after their failure in the previous game. Ben Curran did well in the last game and needs to build partnerships with Rob Keogh and Saif Zaib in the middle order. Tom Taylor played brilliantly in the last game, and he adds depth to this batting with Charlie Thurston and Wayne Parnell.

Ben Sanderson and Tom Taylor bowled well in the last game they would need to strike early as Yorkshire have a very strong batting line-up at the top. Parnell will have to make use of his experience and has been in good form right through the season. The side would also need tight spells from Graeme White and Freddie Heldreich in this game.

Northamptonshire Predicted Playing XI:

Ricardo Vasconcelos (c & wk), Emilio Gay, Ben Curran, Rob Keogh, Saif Zaib, Charlie Thurston, Tom Taylor, Wayne Parnell, Graeme White, Ben Sanderson, Freddie Heldreich

Weather Conditions

There are predictions for overcast skies and rains at Scarborough on July 28 and the batting conditions are expected to be difficult on this surface. Bowlers would get assistance from the surface with the new ball. A score of 300 runs would be a good total for the side batting first.

Venue Details

North Marine Road Ground, Scarborough is a small ground and we have seen large scores being put up at this venue in the past. The wicket is flat, and the ball comes on to the surface nicely. There is some assistance for the fast bowlers on this surface, but spinners have generally struggled here.

Toss: To Bat

We have seen big scores being made in this competition and sides batting first have had an advantage. This is a small ground and big scores have been posted here in the past. Thus, the side winning the toss here would opt to bat first upon winning the toss.

Northamptonshire showed signs of struggle in the last game with the bat. Their top order will have to deliver the goods here to avoid second consecutive loss for the season. Yorkshire come here with a massive win and their batting is looking in great form right now. This game is expected to be a close one but going by current form, Yorkshire would be favourites here.
