YORKSHIRE AND SURREY KICK-OFF ROYAL LONDON ODI CUP 2021

  • Surrey is the most unlucky team as they ended up runners in three consecutive years from 2015 to 2017.
  • Yorkshire`s only win in the 50-over domestic competition came way back in 1983 and they never made it to the finals in the last decade.
  • Yorkshire made it to the knockouts in the T20 Blast this year while Surrey missed the cut-off agonizingly close by NRR margin.

SURREY will win the match

Royal London ODI Cup has returned back for the seventh season after missing out last year due to the pandemic. Despite the return it is all set to face a lot of shortcomings such as missing many key players owing to the Hundred and England-India test series. Yorkshire and Surrey will be one of the five opening matches for this year.  Both Teams did not have a fruitful year last season as they failed to qualify for the knockouts and will be eager to go to the next stage this year. They will look to start the campaign with a victory in the opening match.

Yorkshire Preview

Yorkshire will miss a large pool of players like Tom Kohlmore, Dawid Malan, Adam Lyth, Joe Root, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Johnny Bairstow, and Mathew Fisher in their squad this year. Gary Ballance will the lead the side and the onus on the batting department on Sam Northeast, Peter Handscomb, Keeper Jonathan Tatterssal, and James Wharton.

Their pace bowling attack looks in good stead with the likes of Duanne Oliver, Tim Bresnan,  Mathew Pillans, and Steven Patterson available in the squad.  Spinners Dom Bess and Josh Poysden will take care of the middle overs effectively. Their bowling looks good with a lot of first choice players available.

Top players to bet on:

Gary Ballance – Gary Balance is a vast experienced player who has represented England in ODIs and Test matches. He had a good season last year with 294 runs in 6 matches and will be looking to lead his team from the front this year.

Mathew Pillans – Pillans picked up 16 wickets in just 7 matches and at an economy rate of 6.5 RPO last year. He will look to continue his bowling prowess in this season too to help his team win matches.

Yorkshire Predicted Playing XI:

Gary Ballance (C), Peter Handscomb, Sam Northeast, Jack Leaning, Duanne Oliver, Tim Bresnan,  Mathew Pillans, Steven Patterson, Dom Bess, Josh Poysden, James Wharton

Surrey Preview

Surrey are expected to be led by veteran spinner Gareth Batty in this season. Hashim Amla, Mark Stoneman, Rikki Clarke, Ryan Patel and Jamie Smith are expected to form the core of the batting line-up.  They miss a host of players Laurie Evans, Rory Burns, Jamie Overton, Jason Roy, Ollie Pope, and Jordan Clark this season.

Conor McKerr is expected to lead the pace department with the likes of Matt Dunn, Gus Atkinson, and James Taylor for company.  They have a song spin department with the trio of Amr Virdi, Gareth Batty, and Daniel Moriarty in the squad.

Top players to bet on:

Hashim Amla – Amla was in superb form in the recent county matches where he played superb knocks to save his team in dire situations. We expect him to continue his good form in the Royal London one-day cup too.

Gareth Batty – Batty is a veteran bowler with 250+ matches and 250+ wickets in the List A career and his experience will be invaluable with a lot of first choice players missing.

Surrey Predicted Playing XI:

Hashim Amla, Mark Stoneman, Ryan Patel, Jamie Smith (wk), Conor McKerr, Matt Dunn, Gus Atkinson, Gareth Batty (c), Daniel Moriarty, Rikki Clarke, Nico Reifer

Weather Conditions

Scarborough is expected to have bright and sunny weather with just 10% chances of rain on the match day.  We expect rain to stay away from this game.

Venue Details

Scarborough will have balance between the bat and ball with some swing available for pacers. Batsmen will enjoy the true pace and bounce on this track once they survive the new ball.  We expect the runs to be around 260-280 runs in this match.

Toss: To Bowl

Chasing is the best option as the early moisture in the itch will aid the bowlers in the first 10-15 overs of the match. We expect the both captains to take advantage of the conditions on offer.

The Royal London one-day cup is hugely hampered by the other competitions in the English circuit but it also provide some fringe players to showcase their talents and catch the eye of the selectors.  Both teams will miss a host of players but Surrey has better experienced players in both batting and bowling departments when compared to Yorkshire in this match. But, Yorkshire will have home advantage on their side but we expect Surrey to win this match.

SURREY will win the match
