Bet NowThe fourth season of the T20 Blast is all set to begin and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The last year and a half have been tough on the world and some solid cricketing action is all we need. One of the first matches in the North Group this season will be between Yorkshire Vikings and Birmingham Bears. While Yorkshire finished 5th last season, Birmingham (Warwickshire) came in third. Both the teams will be looking to start the season on a winning note and given that the two have had some close encounters in the past, this could be an exciting game.
Yorkshire failed to progress to the knockout stages last season and have a lot to work out this time. They had managed two strong wins in their first five games – against – Derbyshire and Durham – but couldn’t sustain the momentum. They went on to lose four matches in a row in the second half of the season which sealed their fate.
The Vikings will again be depending on their strong batting to make an impression in the 2021 season. Adam Lyth, who was their leading run-getter last season with 308 runs at 38.5, will again have a big part to play. Captain David Willey, of course, will be their key player. The explosive all-rounder is in a good rhythm and can be their big game-changer. Then there’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore, the big-hitter who made a splash in the 2019 season, and Harry Brook, the exciting young batsman who could be the man to watch out for in the middle-order.
With the ball, Yorkshire will be depending a lot on overseas purchase Lockie Ferguson who has 63 T20 wickets in 61 appearances and a career economy of 7.56. The form of leg-spinner Adil Rashid will also be crucial to Yorkshire’s chances.

The Birmingham Bears, also knowns as Warwickshire, finished third in the Central Group last season. They lost a virtual qualifier to Northamptonshire Steelbacks in their final game and missed out on an automatic berth. Yet, they can take a lot of positives from the last season and under new captain Will Rhodes, they would hope to go all the way.
Sam Hain was the leading scorer for the team last year with 284 runs at 56.80. The Bears would hope the solid middle-order batsman continues that form this season. But openers Robert Yates and Adam Hose will have a huge responsibility to give the team consistent starts. Another key man for the team would be West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite who can change the game with his big-hitting down the order.
Birmingham (Warwickshire) has a really impressive bowling unit and the attack of Olly Stone, Henry Brookes, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, and Jake Lintott will be hard to rival. If these five are fit and in form, then the Birmingham Bears will be really tough to beat.

The pitch at the Headingley Cricket Ground is usually a really good one for batting and we can expect a high-scoring game here. Spinners have done surprisingly well on this pitch and their role in the middle overs could be vital.
The weather at Headingley is expected to be cool and pleasant. There’s a shower or two expected on the day of the game but we should still have a full game.
While there hasn’t been an international T20 match played at the Headingley Cricket Ground yet, it has featured many T20 matches. The average first innings score here in the last three years has been around 180, showing that the team batting first generally does well here. A total of around 180-190 by the side batting first should be a winning one.
The teams batting first have won close to 60% of the matches at Leeds in the last 10 years. Hence, winning the toss and batting first should be the way to go.
In the last 5 matches between Yorkshire Vikings and Birmingham Bears (Warwickshire), Yorkshire has won 2 games while the Bears have clinched only one. One game was tied while one was abandoned. These two have shared a healthy rivalry and it would be interesting to see which team starts on a winning note this time. The Bears have a really solid bowling attack while Yorkshire’s strength lies in their batting. But looking at the overall squads, Birmingham Bears look to be more well-rounded and will be tough to beat. Expect them to start on a winning note.
