As near-neighbours, any contest in any sport between South Africa and Zimbabwe is one of note, and this one will be so more than most as the hosts, Zimbabwe, must win to keep their hopes of progression alive in this tri-series.
So far in this battle between Zimbabwe, South Africa and New Zealand, it is the Black Caps who have been the most impressive and sit top of the table after the opening three games.
Not that anyone was expecting much else, based on the comparative strength of all three teams for this series, it is New Zealand who most predicted to succeed.
Anyway, this latest battle between Zimbabwe and South Africa should be a classic with nothing other than a victory required for the hosts!

After their thrashing by New Zealand on Friday, Zimbabwe will return to Harare on Sunday knowing that they must improve in all departments if they are to get anywhere near beating South Africa and staying in the tri-series.
It was an eight wicket defeat with the Chevrons losing with 37 balls still to play so nothing other than a complete performance with bat and ball will be considered acceptable by the fans on Sunday.
With the bat, there were plenty of starts from the likes of Wessly Madhevere, Brian Bennett, Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl yet none were able to make anything near a significant contribution - that must change in this game!
The bowling unit depends a lot on the opening pair of Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava and they will be key once again.

South Africa got off to a winning start in the Zimbabwe Tri-Series with a victory over the hosts last Monday but they were then stopped in their tracks by New Zealand on Wednesday who saw them off by a margin of 21 runs.
The pace duo of Lungi Ngidi and Kwena Maphaka both picked up wickets against New Zealand but were also expensive and they will look to improve for this fixture.
Senuran Muthusamy is someone who impressed with the ball on Wednesday, returning figures of 1/19 from four overs and he is likely to be economical once again.
With the bat, Dewald Brevis, Reeza Hendricks and Lhuan-dre Pretorius at the top of the order will be charged with getting the bulk of the runs in this game.
But looking at their XI, few expect South Africa to have any problems against Zimbabwe.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Reeza Hendricks, Rubin Hermann, Senuran Muthusamy, Rassie van der Dussen (c), Dewald Brevis, George Linde, Corbin Bosch, Gerald Coetzee, Kwena Maphaka, Senuran Muthusamy

According to the forecast, there will be some cloud cover on Sunday but it will soon burn away to leave a pleasant and warm afternoon in Harare for this game.

There certainly is something in this wicket for the bowlers to work with but the ball does come onto the bat at a nice pace. Batters can get full value for their shots and we expect a par total of 180.
Two of the first three games in the 2025 Zimbabwe Tri-Series were won by the team chasing so we predict that both captains will want to bowl first in this game.
This does look like being another one-sided game in Harare and we do not expect Zimbabwe to cause South Africa too many problems. Our prediction is for another defeat for Zimbabwe.
We are backing South Africa to win!
