Arsenal continued their winning start to the season by coming from behind to beat Fulham.

They showed a positive response to going a goal behind to their London rivals and largely controlled the match through their midfield. The likes of Odegaard and Jesus were excellent throughout.

Here, they have an ideal opportunity to extend that winning run at home against Aston Villa, a team that they have a good record against over the years.

With tougher fixtures to come, Arsenal will want to put their foot down and claim maximum points here.

As for Aston Villa, they’re in real trouble right now. Manager Steven Gerrard was meant to progress the club from a bottom-half team into one challenging for European positions.

If anything, they’ve backwards from the team managed by Dean Smith. The home defeat to West Ham, a club that were bottom of the table at the time, shows how poor they are.

On paper, there’s only one team winning this.

Arsenal FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Four wins from four games is the perfect start

Won both games against Villa last season

Reasons to be fearful:

Fulham gave them something to think about in their last game

Villa will be desperate for points

Arsenal have looked reasonably comfortable in their four games so far, scoring at least two goals in all of them. They currently have the joint-best goal difference, alongside City and Liverpool.

In their last game, a win over Fulham, they were made to work harder than they had previously, especially when their opponents took the lead.

Mikel Arteta will be pleased with the way in which his side remained calm and kept playing their football. Eventually, their quality shone through, aided by a bit of luck in terms of kind deflections.

Here, they face a side that could be close to sacking their manager. Steven Gerrard has fallen on tough times at Villa and many of the fans have been seen calling for his dismissal. Only time will tell.

Arsenal’s high press and quality in front of goal should be too much for the Villains here.

Star Man – Martin Odegaard

The young Norwegian was sensational against Fulham, creating chances and carving open the opposition’s defence with some great passing. He makes this side tick and has been awarded the captain’s armband.

Aston Villa FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Players must come out and fight for their manager

Have won three of their last five meetings

Reasons to be fearful

Gerrard has one of the lowest win percentages in the league

Villa’s players look devoid of confidence

Aston Villa have three points on the board after four games, showing a lack of confidence and many problems for Steven Gerrard to solve.

He must do so quickly, before the ownership decides to act and remove him from his position. They have one victory so far this season, which is probably keeping him in the job right now.

Frustratingly for him, they seemed to control large parts of the game against West Ham, especially in the first half. They will feel unlucky to lose from a deflected goal, though in truth they didn’t do enough to win the game themselves.

Now, they face arguably the league’s in-form team. Arsenal are then followed by the champions Manchester City. It’s a run of games that could see Villa creep closer towards the relegation zone.

Can they provide some hope for their fans here?

Star Man – Phillipe Coutinho

Gerrard badly needs his big-name signing to come good for him, and quickly. Coutinho has played well in fits and starts since his arrival but needs to play better consistently.

     Arsenal will boss possession

If Arsenal score first, Villa heads will drop

Could be a big score unless Villa start to play better

The last thing Aston Villa, and their manager Steven Gerrard, need right now is a heavy defeat.

Unless they pull their socks up, however, it could be exactly what they’re going to get.

Arsenal are on fire right now, with Mikel Arteta’s men finally hitting their stride after several seasons of frustration.

They have too many players who can punish Villa, and that’s exactly what they’re favourites to do.
