Arsenal aiming to continue 100% winning start against London rivals Fulham
Arsenal to win 2-1
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: London, Emirates Stadium
Bet NowArsenal are the only side to make a 100% winning start over the first three games of the season, sitting top of the table and two points ahead of champions and favourites Manchester City.
They have played well, too, scoring nine goals and only conceding twice. New signing Gabriel Jesus has settled in well and Arsenal’s front line looks completely revitalised from the days of Aubameyang and Lacazette.
Now, they have a chance to get one over on their London rivals and win their fourth game on the bounce.
They won’t find it easy against Fulham, however, considering the start that their newly promoted London rivals have made.
They are undefeated, having taken points off Liverpool and Wolves, before winning against Brentford last weekend.
Many predict a newcomer to the league to struggle, although the signs are that Fulham have a squad capable of competing.
This should be an interesting battle.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Perfect start to the season has impressed fans and neutrals alike
Won six of their last seven meetings against Fulham
Reasons to be fearful:
Fulham could present their toughest challenge so far
Have no experience of being top of the table
Arsenal fans have been loving life so far this season, with faith in their team over the past few seasons being repaid right now.
They have little experience of being at the top of the table, with could count against them in the long run, with City hot on their heels.
Things feel different this time though. In Gabriel Jesus, they have one of the most in-form strikers in Europe and someone who has completely galvanised their frontline.
There are still questions about their defence that will be answered when they play the bigger teams, but Fulham could present a few challenges for them here.
Star Man – Gabriel Jesus
With two goals and three assists to his name so far, no one has more goal contributions in the opening three games. He is key to Arsenal’s hopes this season and will be important here.
Reasons to be cheerful
Unbeaten start shows they have a strong squad
Mitrovic is finally looking like a Premier League striker
Reasons to be fearful
Record against Arsenal is poor
Lost in midweek against Crawley in Carabao Cup
The one negative against Fulham this season is their midweek defeat in the Carabao Cup, where they lost to League Two side Crawley Town.
It was the surprise of the round, although Fulham will be hoping it has no impact on their match this weekend. They have a dreadful record over the years against Arsenal, so they’ll need all the luck they can get.
Indeed, Fulham haven’t beaten Arsenal since 2012, and only on three occasions since 1966. It is a fixture that Arsenal have dominated over the years.
They have more of a chance than many might give them, however. Fulham have taken to life well in the Premier League and believe they have the tools to cause Arsenal a few issues.
Whether they can or not is another matter.
Star Man – Aleksandar Mitrovic
The big Serb has three goals from his three games so far, and could have had another from the penalty spot but missed the opportunity. He has the physicality to trouble Arsenal if his teammates can find him.
Arsenal’s intensity will trouble Fulham
The Cottagers could struggle to work the ball into high areas
Gabriel Jesus to score or assist
The smart money is on Arsenal continuing their winning run here, remaining at the top of the table ahead of Manchester City.
Fulham will have other ideas, of course, especially considering their own unbeaten start to the campaign.
However, in order to earn anything from this game, they’ll will need to find a way of getting Mitrovic into goalscoring positions, which Arsenal will feel they can prevent.
If they do stop Mitrovic, they should win this game.
