Another week, another win for Manchester City.

Their win over Everton in midweek means that City are now 10 points clear at the top of the table with 14 games remaining, with many predicting that the race for the title is now effectively over.

An incredible 12 match winning streak in the Premier League has seen them go from a lowly 8th to top of the pile, with the likes of Gundogan and others producing some of the best form of their careers to date.

However, with their attention about to turn back to the Champions League, a competition which they have never won, will they take their eye off the ball?

Arsenal have certainly improved since their awful form to end 2020, however remain in 10th position with two defeats from their last three matches.

They played in Europe a few days ago, and will therefore be a little tired themselves, though surely no motivation is required to play the best team in the country.

Form Guide (all comps): DLLWD

Reasons to be cheerful:

Unbeaten in six home games in the league

Aubameyang’s return to form is a welcome bonus

Reasons to be fearful:

Just one win in four league games

Haven’t beaten City in previous 10 meetings

Arsenal are the next side to attempt to end City’s ridiculous winning streak this weekend, and probably have as good a chance as anyone to do it, despite sitting nine places below them in the league.

In beating Leeds 4-2 last weekend, the Gunners showed that they have some serious firepower in front of goal when they click into gear.

Aubameyang returned to form with a much-needed hattrick and it will give him and his side confidence going into this game that they can match City in front of goal.

It is, of course, in defence where the key difference lies between the two sides, with the Gunners having conceded 10 goals more than their opponents so far this season.

It’s unlikely that Arsenal will be able to keep City out this weekend, so going forward will be more crucial than ever.

Star Man – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

When in form, he remains Arsenal’s best player and a world-class striker. That hattrick last weekend could spur him into life once more.

Reasons to be cheerful:

Their incredible run continues, with 17 straight wins in all competitions

In-form Gundogan could be fit return after missing Everton game

Reasons to be fearful:

Could their focus now be on the Champions League?

Arsenal have the capacity for a big result against a top team

City have now taken such a strong lead in the title race that they could almost be forgiven for turning their attentions elsewhere, what with the knockout phase of the Champions League starting next week.

However, even with a 10-point lead, there is no way that Guardiola will want his players to become complacent now, and have the opportunity to be 13 points clear of their close rivals Manchester United, who play later on that day.

Here, they should welcome back top scorer Gundogan, who has 11 goals in his last 12 matches, and missed their win over Everton with a groin issue.

Arsenal will certainly put up a fight, especially after banging four goals past Leeds a week ago. But City know they have the firepower, and with a certain Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero nearing full fitness, they have strength in depth.

Star Man – Ilkay Gundogan

With 11 goals in his last 12 appearances, the German international is surely one of the first names on the teamsheet right now.

     City are overwhelming favourites

However, it could be an end-to-end game if Arsenal play to their strengths

Likely to be goals at both ends

What a fascinating game this would be if Arsenal were to score first and put real pressure on City to keep their winning run going.

It would give The Gunners the boost they so desperately need too, and have proven themselves capable of defending well recently, such as the draw against Manchester United.

However, City are favourites here for sure, and if we see De Bruyne back in midfield after a spell on the sidelines, they’ll be an even stronger unit going forward.

Manchester City to win 3-1
