What a giant of a match we have on our hands here.

The fact that this game was meant to be played several months ago has only added to the tension, and Arsenal against Manchester City are likely to be the two teams battling it out for the title come the end of the season.

The Gunners have held onto the top spot since virtually the start of the season, putting together an incredible run of results that we haven’t seen from Arsenal in the best part of two decades.

However, a couple of poor results have allowed Manchester City to creep back into the fold, despite not looking at the very best right now.

Pep Guardiola’s men haven’t always played at the top of their game this season but they have the potential to turn any situation in their favour.

Both teams have the potential to win this and football fans will be licking their lips at the spectacle that awaits.

Reasons to be cheerful:

     Unbeaten in their last 13 home league games

     Held their own in their recent cup game against City

Reasons to be fearful:

     Lost their last 10 consecutive meetings with City

     Failed to win back-to-back league games for first time this season

For the first time this season, Arsenal are looking slightly shaky. Dropping points in consecutive games is something new for Mikel Arteta to ponder.

It has allowed their opponents, and current champions, City to close the gap. Arsenal could, in fact, find themselves in 2nd place at the end of this game if they lose.

The good news is that Arsenal don’t lose at home very often these days. They have gone unbeaten in their last 13 at the Emirates, winning on 11 occasions during that run. 

While their record against Manchester City – a losing streak of 10 on the bounce – Arsenal are undoubtedly a better side this season than they were during those previous games.

You would back them to bounce back from two average performances and show us why they raced into a lead at the top in the first place.

Star Man – Bukayo Saka

One of City’s weak points is down Arsenal’s right, which is Saka thrives. He has been in excellent form this season and can be his team’s focal point here.

Manchester City are something of an enigma currently.

They are 2nd in the league, and will go top with victory. They are still fighting in the Champions League and the FA Cup. Erling Haaland is a force of nature upfront.

And yet, there are alarm bells going off that haven’t been seen before. They’ve lost their last two away games. They’ve dropped more away points already this campaign than in the whole of last season.

Indeed, they’ve only scored six goals from their last nine away games in all competitions, proving how difficult they’ve found leaving Manchester lately.

However, what we’ve seen from Guardiola over the years is that his teams usually bounce back harder than ever.

Here, Haaland is an injury doubt and could miss out.

Played brilliantly against Aston Villa, responding well to having been left out of the starting line-up in recent games. He’s the league’s best player when in that kind of form.
