Arsenal look to return to winning ways against bottom team Nottingham Forest
Arsenal to win 2-0
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: London, Emirates StadiumBet Now
Arsenal remain at the top of the Premier League, despite being held to a 1-1 draw with Southampton last weekend.
It was a game that they were expected to win, although there will be those that will argue that their great winning run had to come to an end at some point.
They also suffered a disappointing defeat in their midweek Europa League game too, going down 2-0 to a talented PSV side in the Netherlands. The Gunners will expect a response here, of course.
Nottingham Forest earned a surprising win over Liverpool last weekend. It was expected that Liverpool would plough through the team at the bottom of the league but it was Steve Cooper’s side that claimed three points.
With another big game against Arsenal, they will enter into it with a confidence they have not shown so far this season.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Eight successive wins before their draw last weekend
Only City have scored more goals this season
Reasons to be fearful:
Haven’t scored more than once in any of their last five games
Forest will be desperate for points
Arsenal have suffered arguably their most disappointing week of their season so far, although they remain top of both the Premier League and their Champions League group currently.
Before last weekend, Mikel Arteta’s men had claimed eight successive wins in all competitions to propel them to their fantastic current position.
Their goalscoring form has dropped off of late, of course. They’ve scored 25 goals in the Premier League this season, although they’ve only scored two from their last two fixtures.
In what could be a tight game against a team scrapping for points, Arsenal’s best players will need to be at the top of their games to get back to winning form.
Star Man – Bukayo Saka
The England man has been brilliant this season and has five goals to prove it. In what could be a tight game, his pace and trickery down the wing could help to open up Forest.
Reasons to be cheerful
Win over Liverpool will bring some confidence
Another win could lift them out of the bottom three
Reasons to be fearful
Facing Arsenal away will be a daunting challenge
Tough run of fixtures coming up before World Cup break
Nottingham Forest pulled off one of the shocks of the season so far in beating Liverpool last weekend, although it wasn’t enough to lift them out of the bottom three.
Matters don’t get any easier for Forest, with a tough away fixture to Arsenal this weekend. Indeed, before the World Cup, Forest also face Brentford, Crystal Palace and a Carabao Cup fixture against Tottenham.
All of those three games are at home, which could spring some optimism going forward. Here, however, they face an even tougher prospect against league leaders Arsenal.
Another win could lift them out of the bottom three, although a heavy defeat would leave them at square one.
Star Man – Taiwo Awoniyi
The former Liverpool striker scored the winner against his old team last weekend, giving his side a precious victory. He now has three goals this season, but can he push on further?
Arsenal are heavy favourites to win
If they score early, it could be a big victory
Forest must play in the same way as last weekend
Nottingham Forest’s advantage is that they have had a week’s rest since their last game, whereas Arsenal have travelled to the Netherlands and back in midweek.
It could play a part here, although Mikel Arteta made five changes for that game.
If Forest are to stand a chance here, they must channel the same fighting spirit as they did against Liverpool last weekend.
It’s a lot to ask two games in a row, and Arsenal remain clear favourites here.
