Arsenal know that their destiny remains in their hands, despite drawing their previous two games and seeing their lead over Manchester City slip to a mere four points.

City also have a game in hand over the league leaders, plus the Gunners must go to the Etihad for their crunch game next week. It’s set to be a title decider at the perfect time of the season.

Mikel Arteta’s men have allowed a two-goal lead slip in each of their last two games. Are they starting to stutter? They need to return to winning form here.

At the opposite end of the table, Southampton appear to be all but doomed with just seven games remaining. With a four-point gap to safety, Ruben Selles’ men are running out of time.

The Saints have lost three in a row and whatever hope they had of staying up is running out quickly.

Arsenal FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Unbeaten in 23 home games against Southampton

Have their destiny in their own hands

Reasons to be fearful:

Given up two-goals leads in their last two games

Failed to beat Southampton earlier in the season

The Gunners have shown the first signs that they are wavering in the race for their first title in nearly 20 years.

Two draws are not the end of the world, but they were both games that Arsenal should have won, having taken dominant leads inside the first half.

Their latest slip-up, against West Ham, was a game in which they should have been four or five goals to the good before the Hammers scored themselves.

That said, Arsenal will remain confident heading into the next week. City don’t play in the league this weekend, which means that the Gunners will go seven points clear with victory here.

That will lead to an epic showdown with City next week, where Arsenal must realistically avoid defeat to remain in control of the title.

Star Man – Bukayo Saka

Saka missed a crucial penalty against West Ham last weekend, that would have won the game. The youngster has bounced back from disappointment before and will probably contribute here.

Southampton FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Claimed a point against Arsenal earlier in the season

Can playing a big team get the best out of the players?

Reasons to be fearful

Without victory in their last six

Lost 16 of their last 23 visits to the Emirates

Time is quickly running out for Southampton to retain their Premier League status, and the bleak fact is that they are now more likely to go down than they are to stay up.

Ruben Selles, the third Southampton manager of the season, won two of his first three games in charge, although that new manager bounce quickly disappeared.

The Saints will travel to the Emirates without a great deal of hope, but perhaps that will release the players of the pressure that has weighed heavily in recent times. They haven’t won any of their last 23 away games against the Gunners.

They will cling onto the fact that they earned a point from their home game against Arsenal earlier this season and try and repeat that here.

Star Man – James Ward-Prowse

Rumour has it that Ward-Prowse has been told that he can leave the club if Southampton are relegated this season. He has been an excellent servant to this club but surely won’t want to play Championship football.

Arsenal must return to winning form

Saka to contribute in front of goal

     Southampton to be brushed aside

Arsenal have come too far and achieved too much this season to allow themselves to fall away completely. The title remains well within their grasp, especially if they win here.

Three points will be the minimum requirement here, especially against the lowest-ranked team in the league.

Southampton must try and play without some of the pressure that relegation brings, but they are unlikely to get anything here.
