Aston Villa were on a three-match losing streak when they travelled to Everton last weekend, a team that had won both home games under new manager Sean Dyche.

However, it was Aston Villa that showed courage and strength to claim three precious away points and lift themselves level on points with Chelsea. A win here could well move them into the top half.

On the other hand, the top 10 looks as far away as it ever has done for Patrick Vieira and his Crystal Palace side. Five draws and a defeat have left them stranded, only six points above the relegation zone.

For such a big club with a great history in English football, Aston Villa haven’t spent much time in the Premier League’s top 10 in recent seasons. 

A troubled period under Steven Gerrard left the club nearer the bottom of the league that the halfway point, although Unai Emery has helped steady the ship in recent months.

To move into a top-half spot would show their improvement under their new manager and encourage their fans that they are moving in the right direction. 

Their home form has been mixed recently, however, losing their last two at Villa Park. They’ve also only beaten Palace once in their last four meetings.

Star Man – Ollie Watkins

The English striker may be working his way into his country’s plans after his hot streak in front of goal. He’s now scored in his last five appearances for Villa, helping to push them higher up the table.

While Aston Villa will be looking at teams above them, Crystal Palace will be looking at clubs below them right now.

With a six-point gap between themselves and the bottom three, Palace will feel that they have enough to be safe this season. However, no team has had to wait for so long for a win this season.

Eight games have now come and gone since their last win and Patrick Vieira will be getting desperate for his team to deliver here. 

The Eagles won their last game against Villa but they’ll need a huge improvement to achieve the same result here.

Palace’s last five goals have all been scored by different players, showing a lack of consistency going forward and the opposite to Villa’s Ollie Watkins. Olise possesses excellent pace and skill on the wings, however.
