Brighton have been a joy to watch this season. But, unfortunately the Seagulls have taken their foot off the gas a little. They’ve now gone 5 games without a win. Hurzeler’s men last registered a win in the Premier League on the 23rd of November, away at the Vitality Stadium. Since then, they’ve drawn 3 and lost 2. Against the Hammers, Brighton did work the ball well. They were the better team but lacked the finishing touch.

Their top scorer with 6 goals is currently nursing an ankle injury which could be one of the reasons for such a bad display in front of goal. Danny Welbeck’s absence has been felt even though Joao Pedro has been regularly in the playing XI. The young Brazilian had scored 4 times in his first 6 league games, but is now without a goal in his last 5. Goals have been drying up for a team that at the start just could not stop scoring. Brighton have scored in all but one game i.e. against Ipswich Town. Mats Wieffer who plays defensive midfielder had to contribute against West Ham, in their latest outing. The manager’s main aim is to get the goals flowing and put an end to this winless run.

Before Brentford took on Forest, they along with Arsenal, were the only two teams who have not lost a Premier League game at home. After the Forest game, Arsenal remain the only team to not have lost a Premier League game. Brentford had the best home record winning 7 and drawing one of their 8 home fixtures. But, Forest are proving to be a handful to clubs this season. They also beat Liverpool and United at Anfield and Old Trafford, respectively.

The past week has been difficult for the Bees to endure - losing 3 games on the run. Although Thomas Frank’s team dominated possession, Wissa, Mbeumo and Damsgaard were kept quiet by a tight Forest back 3. The Bees now take on a side who are looking to return back to winning ways themselves, which makes this a contest to look forward to.

Head to Head Record - Both teams have played each other 6 times. Brighton have won 3, Man United have won 1, with 2 ending in a draw. The Seagulls have scored 8 goals against the Bees. While Brentford have scored 6.

Current Standings - Brighton are in 10th with 25 points. The Bees are in 12th with 23 points.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

The Seagulls are looking at reclaiming lost momentum when they take on a team that doesn’t have a good enough track record away from home. In all 3 previous Premier League games, Brighton are unbeaten against Brentford - winning 2 and drawing 1. Hurzeler’s men alternated between draws and defeat, dropping 12 points in the process.

Those 12 points would’ve taken Brighton second, right in the title mix. But that’s not how life in the Premier League works. The Seagulls are always quick to take the lead but suffer seeing games through. Playing against Leicester was a bitter pill to swallow when Vardy caused late drama and sunk Seagull souls.

The team has not been defending as a unit. They’ve now scored in each of their 13 Premier League outings, but have managed to keep only one clean sheet. That clean sheet came against newly promoted Ipswich in a 0-0 draw on the 14th of September. Tightening up at the back against a lethal Brentford side is a must. Thomas Frank’s forward line is built as well as anyone in the top 3 right now and could cause serious damage if not watchful.

Injury - March, Milner, Webster, Hinshelwood, Kadioglu and Danny Welbeck are all out.

Brighton probable XI - Verbruggen (GK), van Hecke, Estupinan, Dunk, Veltman (DEF), Baleba, Wieffer, Gruda, Pedro, Mitoma (MID), Rutter (FWD).

Brentford FC Preview

The Bees have been an exceptional team this season, except for when they’re on the road. Unfortunately, Forest who sit in the top 4 ended their 100% unbeaten record at the G-Tech stadium. But this time, Thomas Frank will look at breaking his own record away from home. Although Brentford have only won just one of their last seven games against the Seagulls - drawing 3 and losing 3, they’re the more complete team. It’s a shame that a team of such cutting-edge talent has only been able to amass a single point away from home.

While in the calendar year, only Everton have picked up fewer points (10) on the road than the Bees. Thomas Frank’s team needs a solid No.6 that can block shots - because of the amount of shots oppositions have against Brentford. The Bees have faced 309 shots with 112 on target. Players should stick as close as possible to their markers.

Although Brentford do make up for it by scoring more goals. No team in the Premier League this season has scored more goals in the first half (19) than Brenford, along with Spurs. But along with that the Bees have also conceded the most in the first half (18) apart from Southampton and Leicester - making Thomas Frank’s side extreme in its identity.

The Bees have to credit Yoane Wissa’s poaching skills. Excluding penalties, he has scored 9 goals so far, with only Isak netting more (10). Wissa will definitely have a say at the Amex, helped by Schade and Mbeumo. The striker had big boots to fill after Ivan Toney’s departure to Saudi, and he’s doing an incredible job. Thomas Frank should be setting a target for his striker to chase 20 goals this season.

Injury - Henry, Hickey, DaSilva, Nunes, Jensen, van den Berg, Pinnock and Thiago are injured.

Brighton probable XI - Flekken (GK), Ajer, Collins, Mee, Lewis-Potter (DEF), Janelt, Norgaard, Damsgaard (MID), Mbeumo, Wissa, Schade (FWD).

Brighton are a good side that lost its spark mid way. Fortunately they have accumulated enough points to not worry about a relegation battle. But Hurzeler’s men need to step things up now more than ever. Dropping points becomes routine just like picking up points. The Seagulls have the depth to be on the fringe of a European qualifying spot and shouldn’t shy away.

Brentford just need to replicate their home form at the Amex. Thomas Frank has overproduced so far this season. Mbeumo and Wissa could be a handful for Brighton defenders if they’re caught sleeping. None of these teams have the hunger to go on and win it, and will therefore settle for a point.
