Brighton’s new manager suffered his first defeat in charge of the club, with Roberto De Zerbi’s men surprisingly poor in their 2-0 defeat to Brentford.

Brentford hadn’t been at their best for some time, and many believed that Brighton would continue their good form under the new manager.

That wasn’t to be, although Brighton still find themselves in a strong position in the league, just two points off the top four as it currently stands. They will be looking for an instant turnaround here.

Unlike Brighton, most people predicted yet another defeat for Nottingham Forest at the weekend, and they were proved right with the promoted side suffered a 1-0 loss to Wolves.

Things continue to go from bad to worse for Forest and their manager. Although it’s still early in the season, there will come a point where they are too far behind to catch up sooner rather than later.

They need a big performance here, but do they have the players and the confidence to get one?

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Won three of their last four against Forest

They will be much better at home than they were in defeat away

Reasons to be fearful:

Has the ‘new manager lift’ gone already?

Yet to secure victory under De Zerbi

New manager Roberto De Zerbi came into the club last month, to replace Graham Potter who was on his way to Chelsea.

Since then, De Zerbi and Brighton are yet to win a game.

They have looked positive at times, of course. Brighton have too many fine players not to play well, such as the 3-3 draw against Liverpool where they could have gone on to win the game.

The Seagulls also played Tottenham, a game they lost, before going down 2-0 to Brentford most recently.

It’s too soon to say whether the good work achieved under Graham Potter has been lost with his departure, but it’s clear that the club will need a readjustment period under the new manager.

You’d back them to bounce back with victory here, though.

Star Man – Leandro Trossard

In a World Cup year, the Belgian is showing his best form. He has five goal contributions – three goals and two assists – in his last four appearances.

Nottingham Forest FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Had opportunities to score against Wolves

Could be a good time to play Brighton

Reasons to be fearful

     Tough upcoming run of fixtures

     Confidence appears at a low

Forest are slowly slipping away from the rest of the pack at the bottom of the table.

They are currently four points away from safety already, with only 10 games played. With the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal to follow this month, this is likely to only get worse.

Despite the amount of money spent in the summer, there doesn’t seem to be much of a plan of how the club wants to play. Steve Cooper needs more time to get his ideas across, but he may not have much of it.

Although Cooper has been given a new long-term contract, you wonder how much that will save him if Forest continue to lose game after game.

Against Brighton, they must play more like a coherent team and not a selection of individuals. Can they pull off a result?

Star Man – Emmanuel Dennis

The striker must come good after the faith placed in him by the manager. He has all the attributes to be successful in the Premier League.

Brighton will have the lion’s share of possession

Home crowd will want a response

Can Forest create more in front of goal?

You wonder when, or possibly if, Nottingham Forest will start to improve.

If they have another winless month, like the one that went before, you may start to wonder if they can survive in the Premier League, having taken nearly 25 years to gain promotion to it.

It’s a long way back from the bottom of the league, and it’ll take big personalities to do so.

Brighton have a good squad of players and will have ups and downs under their new manager. At home, we know how dangerous they can be, and they should have too much for Forest.
