AFC Bournemouth vs Liverpool FC Match Prediction & Analysis

The story of the week, and perhaps of Liverpool’s season, is last weekend’s result over historic rivals Manchester United who found themselves utterly pounded at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s men rebounded from their mixed season in phenomenal style, turning on the power in a second-half display that saw United well and truly battered. 

Goals from Salah, Nunez, Gakpo and Firmino sealed a famous victory for the Reds. Now in 5th, they have the top-four firmly in their sights – a win here could take them inside if Tottenham lose later the same day.

Bournemouth came frustratingly close to a famous victory of their own when they took on Arsenal last week. The Cherries went into a 2-0 lead before eventually losing to the Gunners.

Gary O’Neil’s men are now bottom of the league, replacing Southampton in that unfortunate position. Is there more agony for the Cherries here?

Reasons to be cheerful:

     Played brilliantly to go into a 2-0 lead over Arsenal last weekend

     Lost just one of their last three at home

Reasons to be fearful:

     Won just one of their 11 meetings with Liverpool

     Lost three games in which they took a two-goal lead this season

Bournemouth’s luck couldn’t be any worse at the moment, and unfortunately they now look favourites to go down at the end of the season.

Although there is just a gap of a point between themselves and safety, they don’t seem to be able to find results with any consistency right now.

The Cherries have just one victory to their name since the end of November, a string of results that has seen Gary O’Neil’s men plunge from the heights of 14th.

Every game is massive for them now. After Liverpool, they faced an improved Aston Villa, a Fulham side chasing European football and Brighton who are looking for something similar.

While they showed fighting spirit against Arsenal, a heavy defeat here could spell disaster.

Billing is now Bournemouth’s top scorer this season with five. His goal against Arsenal was the second-fastest goal ever scored from a kick off in Premier League history.

     Won nine of their last 11 games against Bournemouth

Reasons to be fearful

     Can’t afford to be off the pace against desperate Cherries

     Aside from United victory, only scored seven goals from their last seven league games

While Liverpool fans will be elated at the nature of their victory over Manchester United last weekend, they’ll also be wondering where that level of performance has been this season.

They have underperformed for much of the season, crashing out of both domestic cups and looking like they’re heading out of the Champions League too. 

The Reds are now into a fight for the top four, which at one stage looked beyond them. If they can keep a level of consistency for the remainder of the season, they should see off Newcastle and Tottenham and claim 4th.

They must guard against complacency here – a win over Manchester United doesn’t necessarily mean another over Bournemouth.

Star Man – Mo Salah

Salah was electric against Manchester United and is now Liverpool’s record goalscorer in the Premier League – an outstanding achievement. Alongside Nunez and Gakpo, Liverpool have a bright future in attack.
