The last few weeks have presented one or two more questions surrounding Tottenham’s potential for success this season, with Antonio Conte’s men falling on harder times in the league and in Europe.

While Spurs haven’t always played the most attractive football this season, they have been efficient with their chances in front of goal and have been too strong for most teams.

Now, with three defeats from their five in the league and one win from their last four Champions League games, it seems that the early season form has fallen away somewhat.

They need a win here to remain in the top three and return to form.

Bournemouth have also fallen on harder times recently. Having steadied the ship, Gary O’Neil has tasted his first two defeats as interim manager.

Perhaps worryingly, these defeats haven’t come against the likes of City or Arsenal, but Southampton and West Ham. Another defeat here could leave them on the verge of the bottom three.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Earned 10 points from the last 15 available

Three wins from last five games represents sharp improvement in form

Reasons to be fearful:

Striker Solanke and goalkeeper Neto may miss out through injury

Big decisions continue to go against Bournemouth

The wave of optimism that grew around Bournemouth in the first few weeks of Gary O’Neil’s interim reign has slowly fallen away of late, with no wins coming from their last three games.

Their opponents in those last three games have all been teams that are in and around them in the league table and games that they ideally need to win to stay above the relegation zone.

As it is, they remain in a relatively stable 14th. However, another defeat or two in quick succession could see them plummet just before the break for the World Cup next month.

More worrying are the injuries to Dominic Solanke and Neto, neither of whom appeared for the second half against West Ham.

The Cherries have been unlucky with refereeing decisions of late. As O’Neil himself said, 10 VAR calls have gone against his side without one going in their favour since he took charge.

There were two in their defeat against West Ham which proved highly controversial.

Star Man – Ryan Christie

The 27-year-old Scot is always one of Bournemouth’s most consistent performers on the wing. If Solanke is injured, the burden may fall on him to provide the quality upfront.

Tottenham Hotspur FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Remain in 3rd despite mixed form of late

The form of Kane is a real positive this season

Reasons to be fearful

Won just one of their last three meetings with Bournemouth

The mood around the club appears to be tense at times

To put Tottenham’s current position in context, the club sits in 3rd place in the league, just three points behind Manchester City in 2nd. In the Champions League, they top their group with one game to play.

However, there is a feeling that there is some tension among the fans of Tottenham right now. Recent results haven’t gone their way, with defeats in the league and draws in Europe derailing their fine start.

Antonio Conte has just received his second ban of the season, this time for a red card against Sporting Lisbon in midweek. Tottenham’s winning aura is slipping just a little.

They now face Bournemouth, Liverpool and Leeds before the World Cup break. None of those games will be easy, with all three fighting for points and league places.

Star Man – Harry Kane

The talisman striker continues to score goals despite his side’s downturn in form of late. He thought he’d scored the winner in midweek, only to see it ruled out by VAR.

Tottenham will be eager to bounce back here

Kane to continue his great form

     Bournemouth also need a response

If Tottenham fail to win here, it could mean that they drop out of the top four altogether.

Of course, this would rely on the teams below them winning their games, but it’s not impossible. Therefore, Conte must rally his troops here after a difficult week or two.

Bournemouth aren’t in the best form either, it has to be said. They may also be missing their main striker Dominic Solanke.

You would back Spurs here, although it may not be straightforward.
