Leaders Arsenal travel to London rivals Brentford in an entertaining clash
Arsenal to win 2-1
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Brentford, Brentford Community Stadium
Bet NowArsenal were handed their first setback of the season last weekend, losing 3-1 against Manchester United in a thrilling clash at Old Trafford.
The Gunners remain at the top of the league, courtesy of their five wins to start the season. No alarm bells will have been sounded as a result of that defeat, though it was a reality check for the early pacesetters this season.
In many ways, they were the team in control of large parts of that game, although it was United’s ruthlessness that showed the lessons that Arsenal need to learn in order to be taken seriously at title contenders.
Brentford are a confident side right now. They appear to be a club that is growing at an impressive rate and are here to stay in the Premier League under Thomas Frank’s management.
They too have two wins from their six games, although they have only lost one of their games, thanks to their impressive goalscoring.
Which team will come out on top here?
Reasons to be cheerful:
Only Man City have scored more than their 15 goals
Ivan Toney can present problems to any opposition
Reasons to be fearful:
Have lost four of their last six meetings against Arsenal
Will fear a response from Arsenal
Brentford have been one of the most free-flowing teams so far this season, scoring as many goals as Liverpool and second only to Manchester City.
The way in which they took apart Manchester United to win 4-0 earned credit from football fans across the world.
The Bees have conceded plenty of goals too, it must be said, one of the reasons why they’ve only claimed two wins from their six games. Leeds is the only team inside the top 12 that have conceded more.
They were electric going forward against Leicester last weekend, it has to be said. Ivan Toney is in the form of his life right now, but his teammates are in excellent shape too. Mbeumo and Wissa are excellent strike partners.
Can they do the same and trouble Arsenal?
Star Man – Ivan Toney
The forward has five goals from his six appearances so far. His hattrick against Leicester earned him all the credit he deserves for an excellent start to the season and has earned his callup to the England squad.
Reasons to be cheerful
Played well despite defeat against Manchester United
Remain top of the table with five wins
Reasons to be fearful
Brentford have played well against big clubs in the past
Their opponents have outscored them this season
Mikel Arteta has done a fine job with this Arsenal team over the past few seasons and it’s clear that they have been on a journey over that time.
At the start of this season, they put down a marker by winning five on the bounce and shooting to the top of the table.
Many of their critics will point to the fact that their game against Manchester United was their first real test of the season, which they lost. Others will say that their performance in that game shows that they are ready to challenge.
Either way, their performances have rightly drawn praise from many.
Here, they must bounce back from that defeat and earn three points against their London rivals. They are likely to lose their place at the top of the table if they can’t.
Star Man – Gabriel Jesus
The Brazilian was electric once again against Manchester United, although he was unable to find a way to goal. The striker has been excellent so far this season and should cause Brentford plenty of problems.
Arsenal will look to control the play
Brentford have been excellent at home
The Gunners must win to remain at the top of the league
London clashes often lead to great matches with plenty of goals and neutrals will look forward to an entertaining contest.
Arsenal head into this one as favourites, although anything less than a win will probably see them lose their top spot to Manchester City or Tottenham.
Brentford have weapons of their own, of course. Ivan Toney has been a revelation up front for Brentford and will cause the Gunners problems.
Arsenal to win 2-1
