Brentford have seen their top half position come under threat in recent times, though not necessarily because of their performances on the pitch.

Thomas Frank’s men continue to be hard to play against, and the Community Stadium is seen as one of the toughest to go and get a result at for opposition teams.

However, they have drawn more games than they have won this season, including three of their last four, and the likes of Chelsea and Aston Villa are closing in fast behind them in the league table.

Fulham are four points and two league places better off than their opponents this weekend and have turned things around after a blip in form at the start of last month.

The Cottagers still have European football in their sights, although realise that they can’t afford to slacken off between now and the end of the season if they are to achieve it.

Brentford FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Unbeaten in their last 11 league games

Won four of their last five home games against Fulham

Reasons to be fearful:

Won just one of their last nine London derbies

Ivan Toney’s upcoming suspension will hang over their heads

The major news dominating Brentford football club these days is what will happen to Ivan Toney, after the England forward was charged by the FA with gambling offences.

It is expected that Toney will serve a lengthy ban when the case comes to its conclusion, although he is, of course, free to play until then.

In the meantime, the manager will want 100% commitment from his entire squad. It’s that determination that has seen his side lose just four times this season – the same number as Manchester City.

They are one of only three teams across Europe – alongside Borussia Dortmund and Stade de Reims – to remain unbeaten in 2023.

The Bees could win their seventh home game of the season, matching their record for the entire 2021/22 campaign.

Star Man – Ivan Toney

Despite his potential upcoming suspension, Toney continues to play with confidence and quality. Since returning to the Premier League, 31% of Brentford’s goals have been scored by Toney - 26.

Fulham FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Won five away games this season – a joint-club record for Fulham

Lost just one of their 17 games against teams below them in the table this season

Reasons to be fearful

Poor record against Brentford from seasons gone by

Joao Palhinha is suspended here after picking up 10 bookings this season

Like their opponents in this game, Fulham have been hard to play against this season, but have also had the quality going forward to hurt teams.

Their last two results have shown that more than most, with the Cottagers earning a crucial away win against Brighton before coming from behind to earn a point against Wolves.

A big part of their success this season has been Joao Palhinha, who has put in some great performances at the heart of midfield. He’s one of the top tacklers in the league but will miss out here through suspension.

They have been good away from home this season, with five victories already. However, they’ll be made to work harder than most weeks by this intense Brentford side.

Star Man – Manor Solomon

With Mitrovic a doubt once again for this game, a player who could come into the fold is Solomon. The Israel attacker has three goals in his last three appearances, all of which have been off the bench.

     Brentford will be fresher

Bees are always so reliable at home

Fulham will create chances of their own

Brentford’s last game was over two weeks ago, due to fixtures being moved around to make room for cup matches. That means they should be the fresher of the two teams here.

Fulham played only a few days ago in their FA Cup win over Leeds, but will be ready to go here.

You feel that with Brentford usually being so reliable at home, this is theirs to lose.
