Brentford continue to flex their muscles in what has been an exceptional season for Thomas Frank and his team. 

Although there’s still a chance they may not achieve European football next season, they’ve done brilliantly all the same. If they are to finish in those coveted spots, these are the sorts of games they need to win.

They dispatched Southampton comfortably in midweek, taking their run to one defeat from the last 14 league games. A home game is exactly what they need to continue their good form.

Leicester, on the other hand, are wilting further by the week. The Foxes look in real danger of relegation right now, with four defeats in a row and little optimism among the fans of avoiding a battle near the bottom.

They are, in fact, level on points with Bournemouth in 18th and defeat here could see them slip into the bottom three if they get it wrong here.

The Foxes badly need victory here, although it’s hard to see how.

     Would be in the top six based on home form this season

     Just one defeat from their last 14 in the league

Reasons to be fearful:

     Won none of their last three against Leicester

     Janelt, Ajer and Jorgensen are all either out or doubtful for this game

The fact that Brentford can consider themselves one of the favourites to finish in a European spot at the end of the season, potentially ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, is testament to the great work they are doing.

Thomas Frank consistently gets the best out of this team and, with Ivan Toney leading the line up front, are a regular goal threat against any side.

Their home form has been the 6th best this season, with some of their performances at the Gtech Community Stadium exhilarating to watch, such as the 4-0 pasting of Manchester United early on.

After this game, they travel to Brighton and then Manchester United, before hosting Newcastle. Those three games will go a long way to determining how high they’ll finish this season.

Star Man – Ivan Toney

Deservedly won a call-up to the England national team this week, meaning he could earn his first cap for his country in the next week or two. He scored yet another goal against Southampton in midweek.

     Continue to have positive spells in games despite losing streak

Reasons to be fearful

     Their 16 league defeats this season is only second worst behind Southampton

     James Maddison’s form has dipped at the wrong time

Leicester’s losing streak is a worrying one and comes at the wrong time of the season for manager Brendan Rodgers. 

While teams like Bournemouth and Everton are starting to pull decent runs together to move out of trouble, Leicester are staring down the barrel of relegation. 

They are, quite simply, too good to be dragged into this mess, but that’s exactly what they are due to stale performances and a clear struggle for motivation. 

For a team that has won the Premier League and the FA Cup within the past eight years to lose 16 games already in a season is virtually unheard of. They must pick up their form quickly to avoid a tense finish.

Unfortunately for Maddison, and Leicester, he has gone off the boil just when his team need him most. He’s now gone three games without a goal contribution, but remains top of their list with 14 goals and assists.
