You know you’ll see a competitive game when Brentford take on Leeds, with two of the league’s hardest working teams clashing at the Community Stadium.

Both teams started the season well, although have faded in their last two or three fixtures.

Brentford will still be happy with 10th position and have claimed four points from their opening two home fixtures. One of those included a battering win over Manchester United, a result that will be remembered for generations.

Here, they will hope to use their energetic home support once again and claim their second win of the season.

Leeds have eight points and are level with Liverpool in that respect. Jesse Marsch’s side have two wins under their belt so far, although none of which have come away from Elland Road.

Expect this to be a close contest.

Brentford FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Their home form is an advantage

One of the top scoring teams in the division

Reasons to be fearful:

Haven’t beaten Leeds since 2019, when both sides were in the Championship

Have gotten into the habit of needing to come from behind

Brentford continue to impress football fans around the world with their determined and hard-working approach to playing football.

They have some quality players too and are currently one of the league’s top scorers, helped in no small part by the 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United in the second game of the season.

More recently, they’ve made it harder for themselves by tending to go a goal behind in games, something we’ve seen against Everton and Crystal Palace.

Due to their spirit, we’ve seen them come back and earn a draw, although that may not save them forever. Against Leeds, they will face another direct, hard-working team that can put them under real pressure from start to finish.

At least Brentford have their home supporters, who are generally brilliant.

Star Man – Ivan Toney

The striker holds the ball up so well and constantly brings his teammates into the game. He hasn’t scored for a while though, so can he grab a goal here?

Leeds United Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Only one defeat this season, against high-flying Brighton

Have the quality to hit Brentford on the counterattack

Reasons to be fearful

Key striker Rodrigo will miss out due to dislocated shoulder

Will find it difficult against Brentford away from home

The main concern here for Leeds is that their key striker, Rodrigo, will miss out due to an injury sustained in the draw against Everton.

The Spanish international dislocated his shoulder and, although it will not require surgery, he’ll be out for the next few weeks. He has scored four goals in his five appearances and therefore represents a big blow for Leeds.

Instead, they will likely welcome back Patrick Bamford to the team, with the striker returning from injury on the bench in the last game.

They also have a number of first-team players back from injury, such as Junior Firpo, Luke Ayling and captain Liam Cooper in contention against Brentford.

Can Leeds hit Brentford on the counterattack?

Star Man – Jack Harrison

The Englishman may well be working his way into England manager Gareth Southgate’s plans with his current form. The winger has been brilliant so far this season.

Brentford to be boosted by their home fans

     Both sides will have chances

     A close-fought contest

This game will be a tight one, not least because both sides would prefer to be the one that counterattacks the other.

Brentford will be pushed on by their home fans, who will want to see another strong performance and three points after earlier successes this season.

It won’t be easy, and Leeds will have chances of their own, but you’d back the home side here.

Brentford to win 2-1
