Brighton are now officially safe from relegation this season after Fulham were confirmed as one of the three going down last weekend.

It will be the fifth season that Brighton have competed in the Premier League following their promotion back to the Premier League in 2016.

Their form isn’t great, with just one win coming from their last six, but they have bravely battled the drop all season and will be delighted to secure safety.

West Ham know that their chances of securing a top four finish are now almost gone, following their defeat to Everton last weekend. With Liverpool and Chelsea in far better form than the Hammers right now, it’s tough to see them making a comeback.

They must claim three points here to maintain an outside chance of catching those above them, as slim as it might be.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Form Guide (all comps): DDLWL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Confirmed safety will boost their confidence

Undefeated in all seven previous meetings with Hammers

Reasons to be fearful:

Dunk and Maupay will be suspended for this one

West Ham need the points more than they do right now

Although Brighton’s recent form has been patchy, there has been definite improvement since the start of the season when they were struggling to pick up the points their performances often deserved.

The Seagulls have won three of their last eight home games, which is more than in their previous 23 matches, as well as keeping six clean sheets from their past nine at the Amex.

Should they win one of their remaining three fixtures, it would equal their tally from their previous three seasons, showing that although they are nearer the bottom end of the league than the top, they are consistent top division performers.

Here, they will unfortunately miss captain Dunk and striker Maupay, who are both suspended.

Star Man – Danny Welbeck

His acquisition has proved a smart one this season and the former England striker needs one more for 50 Premier League goals.

West Ham United FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WLLWL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Declan Rice could return after six weeks out due to injury

Eight away victories is two away from their club record

Reasons to be fearful:

Lost three of the last four matches

No clean sheet from their last eight

West Ham have watched their Champions League chances wash away over the past month or so, having suffered three defeats from their past four, going down to the likes of Newcastle, Chelsea and Everton.

A 6th place finish would certainly be no disaster, having stayed up by the skin of their teeth last season, but it would be a slight disappointment considering how close they were to a top four position not long ago.

During that period, they have missed key midfielder Declan Rice through injury, a player who helps to balance the side between defence and attack, as well as Michail Antonio for a few matches.

Antonio has since returned, and Rice looks set to play some part here, but it seems too little too late for the Hammers this season.

Star Man – Michail Antonio

Scored two goals against Burnley in a recent game, but was quiet against Everton. Will be determined to make up for lost time here.

West Ham have the greater incentive

Their away form has been impressive this season

Brighton will try to keep chances to a minimum

West Ham know that they must push for the win here, knowing that three points is the minimum requirement to stay in contention for a top four finish.

They have been positive away from home this season and will look for that to continue here.

Brighton have the pressure of survival lifted from their shoulders now, but this could either inspire them or make them wish for the end of the season.

Either way, West Ham are favourites.

West Ham to win 1-0
