Brighton took a massive step towards Premier League survival this season by earning successive wins against Tottenham and Liverpool, two huge clubs going for the top four and potentially higher.

Few would have anticipated a win over Spurs last weekend, but to then go and beat Liverpool at Anfield is something those players will remember for a long time to come.

Graham Potter’s men have played some good football throughout much of this season, without the results to show for it, lingering too close to the bottom for their liking. Now, with a 10 point gap between them and 18th placed Fulham, they can breathe a little easier.

It is now Burnley who find themselves in that tricky position just above the relegation spots. The Lancashire club have lost three of their last five in the league, including their last two.

Sean Dyche’s men won’t want to allow their good work in rescuing their season go to waste by slipping up now.

Burnley FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWWLL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Last two defeats have come against top sides Chelsea and City

They have recovered well from poor results in the past

Reasons to be fearful:

Poor results have seen them slip to just a place ahead of relegation

Could once again be without favoured strike partnership

There is certainly no shame in losing to Manchester City at the moment, the team who are looking firm favourites to win the Premier League this season.

Even Chelsea, with a new manager, were expected to beat Burnley. However, The Clarets must now recover their good form of a few weeks ago, when they beat Liverpool and Aston Villa back-to-back to ease the pressure on themselves near the bottom.

Burnley have rarely been seen as a high-scoring team, but now they’ll struggle even more without their favoured strike partnership of Barnes and Wood who are unlikely to feature here due to injury. They’ve scored a third of Burnley’s goal this season, so they’ll be a huge miss.

They’ll expect to have more than the 26% possession they had against City, but they must do more with it going forward.

Star Man – Matej Vydra

Is likely to be called on again after injuries to others. He is their second top goal scorer and will be relied upon to deliver here.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWDWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Four wins from five in all competitions

10 points from last 12 available in the league

Reasons to be fearful:

Burnley will be stubborn to break down

Injury doubts over the likes of Welbeck, March & Mac Allister

Brighton’s morale will be sky-high after back-to-back victories over Spurs and Liverpool, with the six points taking them up to 15th in the table, their highest position since the start of October.

Admittedly, both of those teams are in the middle of a mixed patch, but for Brighton to beat both without conceding a single goal is mightily impressive.

Arguably, their game against Burnley will be a tighter affair, with their opponents also fighting for survival.

The Seagulls advantage comes from their forward players, with the likes of Trossard performing brilliantly right now. As Burnley’s main forwards could be missing, Brighton have a real opportunity to take advantage.

A win here could earn them a place above Wolves in 14th.

Star Man – Leandro Trossard

Followed up his winning goal against Tottenham with an assist in the win over Liverpool.

Will be a tight game with few clear-cut chances

     Brighton to shade possession

Brighton favourites on form but Burnley will be stubborn

Burnley will be fully determined not to lose here, with their eight point buffer between them and relegation under threat if they do.

There is also less incentive for a Brighton victory, having eased the pressure on themselves with two fine wins recently.

The home side will be weakened if Wood and Barnes don’t play, but even if they can’t score, they can make it incredibly difficult for the opposition, too.

Burnley 0-0 Brighton
