BURNLEY FC vs LIVERPOOL FC Match Preview & Analysis

Liverpool’s journey into the top four has been one of the most thrilling aspects of the league over the past month or so.

With the top two positions cemented, and the bottom three already relegated, Liverpool know that the power is in their hands to make the top four with a last-ditch push if they win their two remaining games.

It didn’t appear likely at one stage, but with the likes of Leicester, Chelsea and West Ham all slipping up in recent weeks, a pathway has opened up for the Reds to steal in at the last minute.

Burnley won’t make it easy for them, however. The Clarets will have 3,500 fans cheering them on for the first time in over a year, and Sean Dyche will be determined that his side give Liverpool a stern test.

Their form has been mixed, with two wins from five, but going to Turf Moor is one of the most daunting experiences for an away team in the Premier League.

Form Guide (all comps): LWLWL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Return of fans will be a big boost to Burnley

     Beat Liverpool earlier this season

Reasons to be fearful:

Haven’t won at home in nine games

Were hammered by Leeds at the weekend

Burnley manager Sean Dyche will be disappointed at just how poor their home form has been lately, with no win coming from their last nine at Turf Moor. The return of fans will be a timely boost for his players, with atmosphere clearly missing from stadiums up and down the country.

They will look at their win over Liverpool back in January as inspiration here, although they haven’t done the double over the Reds since 1929-30.

The Clarets will be more determined that usual here though – they would love the opportunity to prevent Liverpool from getting into the Champions League next season, although it’ll be a tough ask with the Reds in such good form right now.

Here, goalkeeper Nick Pope could once again miss out, with Dale Stephens also a major doubt.

Star Man – Chris Wood

With 12 goals this season, Burnley’s top scorer has popped up with some important goals and will relish giving Liverpool’s defenders a tough time here.

Reasons to be cheerful:

Unbeaten in last eight league games

Unbelievable winner from Alisson at the weekend will spur them on here

Reasons to be fearful:

Burnley are a tough prospect away from home

Diogo Jota will miss the final two games of the season

If this season hasn’t been strange enough, the sight of Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson scoring a match winning header late on against West Brom possibly tops the lot.

It shows that the momentum is fully with Liverpool right now, and should either Leicester or Chelsea slip up in their match 24 hours earlier, it could prove fatal for their top four chances.

The Reds must beat Burnley first, of course, which won’t be an easy task. Losing to Burnley back in January was arguably the start of Liverpool’s dreadful run of form which saw them lose seven times in 12 games.

It would be of great satisfaction if they can banish those demons by winning here, and rising into the top four as a result.

Star Man – Mo Salah

The Egyptian is the league’s joint-top scorer and has been fantastic all season. He’s key to their chances of breaking Burnley down here.

BURNLEY FC vs LIVERPOOL FC Winning Prediction

Liverpool favourites but will be made to work hard

     Chances at both ends

     Could be settled late on

Burnley have shown over the years that they can present a tough test for any team, particularly at home.

Liverpool will surely not underestimate them and know they will need to be at their best to get the win they desperately need.

They will need to be patient, and it could be another late winner, but it will come.
