CHELSEA FC vs EVERTON FC Match Preview & Analysis

Both Chelsea and Everton are pressing their claims to finish in the top four this season after some terrific form over the past month or so.

Chelsea are still unbeaten in the eight games since Thomas Tuchel took over as manager, earning five wins along the way. Beating Liverpool at Anfield in midweek was certainly the highlight for this team, and they will be looking to use that as a template for another big game here.

At one point, it seemed that Chelsea would miss out on Champions League football this season, but after a rapid rise under new management, and strange results for other teams, they now seem in pole position to do so.

Everton have been there or thereabouts all season under Carlo Ancelotti, having topped the table for a number of weeks as well as flirting with the top four positions.

They’ve had their ups and downs, but have won their last three matches to take them to within a point of Chelsea.

Teams Preview

Chelsea FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WDWDW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Haven’t conceded a home goal under the new manager

Unbeaten in their last 25 home games against Everton

Reasons to be fearful:

Everton have shown many big teams their quality this season

Thiago Silva and Tammy Abraham could still miss out here

When you are defending as well as Chelsea are right now, the number of possibilities opens itself up to you going forward.

Knowing that they don’t need to score masses of goals to win football matches – as they have only conceded two in their last eight – they can be more patient in attack, choosing the right moments to go forward.

They executed this brilliantly in their midweek win over Liverpool, a match in which they restricted their opponents to half-chances at best, with Mason Mount scoring a brilliant goal.

The Blues’ form has been exceptional for sure – under Tuchel, they have earned more points than any side in the league aside from Manchester City.

They have the luxury of a fully fit squad, apart from Abraham and Thiago Silva, who will need to be assessed.

Star Man – Mason Mount

Has three goals in his last five league matches, including the winner against Liverpool in midweek.

Form Guide (all comps): LLWWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Seeking a club record 10th away win of the season

Could keep four consecutive clean sheets for first time in 12 years

Reasons to be fearful:

     Dismal record against Chelsea away

Chelsea have become difficult to play against

The odds are rather against Everton here, despite their recent form and position in the table. With Chelsea on such a strong run under their new manager, it’s hard to see Everton pulling off a victory.

However, their recent record against Chelsea is positive, having won three of the last four meetings. Unfortunately, those victories have all come at Goodison Park, with their record away to Chelsea dismal.

No doubts about it, Carlo Ancelotti will have something to prove on his return to Stamford Bridge, and will look to his side’s previous results against big teams this season as inspiration. They’ve taken points off Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester and Tottenham.

Here, they may have to do without several key players, such as Rodriguez, Davies and Coleman.

Star Man – Richarlison

The Brazilian is in red-hot form currently, with a goal in each of his last four league games.

CHELSEA FC vs EVERTON FC Winning Prediction

     Should be a fascinating encounter

     Possession relatively even

     Both sides to score

With 11 and 12 games remaining respectively, Chelsea and Everton realise that any slips up now could harm their chances of a place in the top four.

That said, it’s likely that both sides will go for the victory here, rather than sitting back for a point.

We’ve seen just how hard Chelsea have been to beat lately, and that run is likely to continue here.
