Chelsea’s chances of reaching the top four, or any European spot in the league table, may be remote but they can still end the season in a positive fashion.

Two consecutive wins have given Graham Potter hope that his plans are finally working and his new group of players are now gelling together.

They also progressed through to the Champions League Quarter Final stage recently, where they will face Real Madrid. The Blues still have the opportunity to leave a marker this season.

As for Everton, they are fighting hard for their survival in the Premier League. After a painful thrashing by Arsenal to start the month, Everton claimed an important point against Forest before beating Brentford.

These are all important points as the Toffees battle to beat relegation. They’ll need a top performance to claim anything here.

Chelsea FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have won both of their last two – as many as in their last 15

Haven’t lost to Everton in their last home 27 meetings, winning 15 of them

Reasons to be fearful:

The last time they lost in the month of March was to Everton

Haven’t been able to show much consistency this season

Chelsea are a still that are still adapting to Graham Potter’s style and demands, although the players now appear to be playing with a level of confidence not seen for some time.

Indeed, they could win for a third consecutive game, something that hasn’t been seen since Potter first took over back in October. It could lift them into 9th place, depending on Fulham’s result.

Despite that, we cannot get too carried away with this Chelsea team, who made the Quarter Finals of the Champions League this week. They simply haven’t shown the consistency under Potter.

While they are favourites to claim victory against Everton here, especially with their record over the Toffees at Stamford Bridge, you can never write off a surprise result.

Star Man – Kai Havertz

Scored in his last two games, including one in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund. Having gone seven league games without a goal, is he now hitting his stride as the season draws to a conclusion?

Everton FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Won three of their seven games under Sean Dyche – as many as in 20 under Frank Lampard

Could put further distance between themselves and bottom three with win

Reasons to be fearful

     Calvert-Lewin remains unavailable

Winless in their last 11 away games

Sean Dyche has breathed some life into this Everton team and they are now as confident as they have been this season of avoiding relegation.

If they can keep up their current form – three wins from their seven games under the new manager – they should achieve Premier League survival for another season at least.

What would help is if they could improve their away form. The Toffees haven’t won any of their last 11 in all competitions, stretching back to October.

It would be a tough ask to end that run here, but it would boost their chances of survival immensely.

Star Man – Dwight McNeil

McNeil’s winner against Brentford gave Everton three crucial points in their race for survival. McNeil has worked with Dyche for a long time, going back to their Burnley days – he could get a run in the side here.

     Chelsea will dictate possession

They should play with greater confidence

Everton must improve their away performance to stand a chance

Chelsea, if they are indeed to become a force under Graham Potter, need to start putting together the kind of runs we have seen from Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the table.

It’s still too soon for that, of course, but a win here would help to carry on building the momentum of two consecutive wins in the league and one in the Champions League.

Everton have a chance, naturally, but they must improve their away performance.
