Most neutral fans love a surprising result in the Premier League.
It is, indeed, why many of us watch these games in the first place, to see the so-called smaller teams beat up the biggest names around.
That’s exactly what happened last weekend, when Leeds ran Chelsea ragged from start to end, scoring three goals against them.
Chelsea must look to bounce back quickly, having won only one of the first three games of the season. It’s still early, of course, but they won’t want to fall too far behind their rivals at the top.
Leicester are struggling right now. They’re still yet to make a signing in the transfer market, leaving their squad desperately short of the quality it needs.
Brendan Rodgers has a tough battle on his hands this season, and it starts with this game.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Have to perform better than they did last weekend
Won two of the last three meetings
Reasons to be fearful:
Lack of striker remains a problem for the Blues
Defender Koulibaly will miss out due to suspension
If losing 3-0 last weekend wasn’t bad enough, new defensive signing Koulibaly also received a red card, meaning he’ll have to sit this next one out.
Interestingly, Chelsea have been chasing Leicester’s Wesley Fofana for most of the summer, a player who also plays in that centre-back position. He’s unlikely to move before this game, if at all, so it’ll be interesting to see how he plays.
For Chelsea’s current team, they simply must perform better than they did last weekend, where they were outworked and outrun across the entire pitch.
Kante and Kovacic were big misses, due to injury, and they looked soft in midfield. The latter should be back here, although Kante could be out for some time.
Considering the problems at their opponents right now, they’ll see this as a game to get back to winning ways.
Star Man – Raheem Sterling
Hasn’t quite set the world alight since his big move from Manchester City, and you feel he needs a proper centre-forward to play off. However, his skills and pace will cause Leicester problems if his teammates find him.
Reasons to be cheerful
Have scored five goals in their three games
Won their midweek Carabao Cup fixture
Reasons to be fearful
Two defeats and a draw leave them in 19th
Squad is glaringly short of fresh quality
For a team that have scored five goals so far this season – only five teams have scored more – it is Leicester’s defending that has let them down.
They’ve conceded eight, which is the highest in the league at this stage. It’s not a great time to be coming up against Chelsea, who will be hungry for a win themselves.
Leicester still have some quality players, namely James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and others who have helped Leicester in successful seasons in the past.
Right now, they need new blood to freshen up the team, although it doesn’t look as though that will happen before the transfer window closes next week. If Fofana goes to Chelsea, rated at £80m, what then?
They badly need something from this game, but the likelihood of doing so is low.
Star Man – James Maddison
The England international is in good form right now, scoring twice and providing an assist from his three league games so far. His club need him to be their inspiration right now.
Chelsea should dominate the ball
The home side are likely to score first
Can Leicester continue their scoring run?
For all Leicester’s troubles, they’ve still be scoring goals this season – two more than Chelsea in fact. It’s been at the other end where their problems have got the better of them.
If Chelsea keep a clean sheet here, you feel they’ll take their chances in Leicester’s penalty area and win the game.
The Blues need to find a way to goal themselves, of course. They are in the market for a new striker, but are unlikely to have one in time for this game.
With the players, they’ve got, they should be favourites.
