Chelsea will hope that the International break hasn’t halted their fantastic form stretching back to the start of the calendar year, with a top four finish now a real possibility due to their results under the new manager.

Under Thomas Tuchel, the Blues have won six and drawn three of their nine league fixtures in a run which has seen them overtake the likes of Liverpool, Everton and West Ham in the league table and the club will now be confident of securing Champions League football for next season.

Their main concern will be the fitness of their returning international stars, who will have played a lot of football over the past couple of weeks, in all corners of the globe.

West Brom are at the opposite end of the spectrum in many ways, and with a 10-point gap between themselves and safety, they are as good as relegated.

They will hope that their opponents have returned from the break in less than perfect condition.

Chelsea FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWDWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

     Phenomenal form continues under Tuchel

Three of their next four league fixtures are against bottom half teams

Reasons to be fearful:

Key players have faced plenty of action recently

Can they pick up where they left off?

Other than Manchester City, Chelsea were the Premier League’s form side going into the International break, with the club impressing in not only the league, but the FA Cup and Champions League competitions too.

The team are not exactly thrashing allcomers as Manchester City seem to do each week, but they are conceding goals with such rarity that they only need score once or twice a game to be sure of victory.

They haven’t scored more than two goals in a league match since 21st December, though with West Brom unlikely to trouble the Blues too much defensively, this shouldn’t matter a great deal.

The main concern for Chelsea here will be to slot back into form straight away. With key players having gone away on International break, their fitness levels could be running low. Mason Mount for example played all three of England’s recent games.

Star Man – Hakim Ziyech

Scored in Chelsea’s two most recent games in the Champions League and FA Cup and is slowly fulfilling his potential with the Blues.

West Bromwich Albion FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): DWLDL

Reasons to be cheerful:

A win and three draws from six matches represents improvement

Earned 3-3 draw with Chelsea earlier in the season

Reasons to be fearful:

Just one goal scored from their last five matches

     10 points adrift of safety

West Brom will be hoping that the time to strike against Chelsea is straight after the International break when their minds haven’t quite refocussed back to Premier League life.

Before the break, the Baggies were in decent form relatively speaking, claiming six points from as many matches, despite doing little to close the gap to 17th place and safety.

Unfortunately, with only nine games remaining in their season, it appears almost certain that they’ll be relegated this season, but that doesn’t mean they can’t throw in a surprise or two before that happens.

They showed plenty of life when they fired three goals past Chelsea earlier in the season, only to end up drawing the game after a late comeback by the Blues. That’s the sort of performance they’ll be aiming for here.

Star Man – Ainsley Maitland-Niles

The Arsenal loanee has continually played at a high standard since he arrived at West Brom.

     Chelsea are heavy favourites

     West Brom unlikely to score

     The Baggies must defend brilliantly

Coming into the final section of the season, Chelsea will feel positive about their position in the league, and confident that they can claim some silverware in the cup competitions.

In the league, their upcoming fixtures in April are against the likes of Crystal Palace and Brighton, so should be confident of holding onto a Champions League place.

As for West Brom, they have the power to spring a surprise, but it’s highly unlikely. If they concede early here, it could be a messy day for them.

Chelsea to win 2-0
