Brazil, alongside France, were one of the few teams that have the luxury of heading into their last game of the group stage having already qualified for the Round of 16.

You would say that the Selecao have been impressive in moments at this tournament so far, rather than the free-flowing, all-out-attack we’ve seen in World Cups gone by.

Nevertheless, this is one of the finest all-round squads we’ve seen in recent times, and they will take some stopping at this World Cup. Can they make it three from three against Cameroon?

Cameroon must win this game to stand any chance of qualification. Even if they achieve the unlikely and best Brazil, they must still hope that Switzerland don’t win their game against Serbia.

It gets more complicated still, because if Serbia beat Switzerland with a better goal difference than Cameroon beat Brazil, then Cameroon would still face the exit door.

Cameroon Preview

FIFA Ranking: 43

Predicted Finish: Group Stage

Reasons to be cheerful:

Excellent comeback to draw against Serbia

Brazil may present them opportunities if they rotate players

Reasons to be fearful:

Need a miraculous set of results to progress

Have conceded four goals from two games

Cameroon have entertained us brilliantly over their opening two games, providing us with moments of quality and defensive vulnerability aplenty.

In conceding four goals from their opening two games, they’ve arguably left it too late to qualify.

They now need a near-perfect set of results to go in their favour, including a big enough win over Brazil to ensure their goal difference is greater than either Switzerland’s or Serbia’s.

They will take a lot of confidence from the way they came from 3-1 down to draw against Serbia. With two goals in three minutes, they worked themselves back into the game that ultimately didn’t end as they would have liked.

Cameroon won’t be afraid to give things a proper go here, for sure. Look at how Tunisia took the game to France when the world champions had already qualified.

Star Man – Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

His goal to cap off a wonderful counterattacking move earned a point for Cameroon against Serbia. It’s likely that the African nation will still head out, but they’ve certainly been entertaining.

Brazil Preview

FIFA Ranking: 1

Predicted Finish: Winners

Reasons to be cheerful

Can afford to rotate one or two players with qualification secure

Attacking quality means they should carve Cameroon open on multiple occasions

Reasons to be fearful

Fears that Neymar could miss the rest of the tournament with injury

A chance they could finish 2nd in group with a poor result

Brazil must strike careful balance in this game, giving some of their fringe players some time on the pitch while still doing enough to win the game.

If Switzerland were to beat Serbia by a big enough margin and Brazil were to lose this game, then the Brazilians could finish 2nd.

That could mean a Round of 16 clash with Portugal, whereas either Ghana, South Korea or Uruguay might await if they top the group, presenting them with an easier clash in theory.

There are rumours that Neymar could be ruled out for the remainder of the tournament, which would seriously hamper Brazil’s aspirations of lifting the World Cup.

Brazil have plenty of quality elsewhere, of course, but he is their talisman.

Star Man – Vinicius Jr.

Vinicius is the man taking risks every time he gets the ball for Brazil. He loves nothing more than beating his full back and crossing the ball in for the forward, or contributing in front of goal himself.

Brazil are favourites regardless of what team they put out

Can Cameroon keep things tight at the back?

Africans must score first goal to stand a chance

You feel that Cameroon must take an early lead to stand a chance of qualification.

They need to beat Brazil by a decent margin and hope that Switzerland don’t win, so one eye will also be on that game.

Brazil will enter this game as favourites, whether they make several changes to their line-up or not. They know the importance of finishing top of the group.
