In Czech Republic and Denmark, we have two former winners of the Euros battling it out for a place in the Semi Finals, something which few would have thought likely given their journey at this tournament so far.

The Czechs have overcome a tough group which included England and Croatia, before outworking a disappointing Netherlands side in the Round of 16.

They were helped by their opponents going down to 10 men following the sending off of de Ligt in the second half, but scored twice in the final 20 minutes of the game to secure a famous victory over the Dutch.

Denmark recovered from tragedy at the start of their tournament to finish as runners-up to Belgium, followed by a very convincing 4-0 victory over 2016 Semi Finalists Wales in the Round of 16.

Many neutral supporters will be cheering on the Danes, after the shocking scenes of Christian Eriksen collapsing on the pitch, but this game is a close one to call.

Czech Republic Preview

World Ranking: 40

Best Historical Finish at the Euros: Winners, 1976

Reasons to be cheerful:

Win over Netherlands will bring huge confidence boost

Only lost two of their previous 25 meetings with Denmark

Reasons to be fearful:

Public support will be against them

Can they cope with Denmark’s intensity?

There are plenty of things going in the Czechs’ favour right now, and they themselves will feel confident of victory and a place in the Semi Finals.

Their record over the Danes has been strong, with just two defeats from their 25 meetings over the years. Few of those have been during major tournaments however, so a big performance will be required here.

Like Denmark, they have largely enjoyed their status as underdogs so far this campaign and, even though they have won just two of their four games so far, have a real shot at making the final four.

The main question will be how they are going to cope with knowing that most of the footballing world is cheering on their opponents. If they can cope with that, who knows?

Star Man – Patrik Schick

The striker has been brilliant so far this tournament, netting four goals and providing a strong presence up top for the Czechs.

Denmark Preview

World Ranking: 10

Best Historical Finish at the Euros: Winners, 1992

Reasons to be cheerful:

Large victory over Wales shows quality in front of goal

Are driven forward by huge support

Reasons to be fearful:

     Patchy record against the Czechs

One or two injury and fitness concerns

Denmark have recovered remarkably after losing their first two games of the group stage, then going on to beat Russia in order to finish second in the group, before thrashing Wales in the Round of 16.

The outpouring of support from them since Christian Eriksen’s collapse on the pitch has been huge, and has undoubtedly helped to carry them this far.

The 4-0 win over Wales was the biggest win of the Round of 16 and in keeping a clean sheet, Denmark’s confidence will be sky-high, especially with a Semi Final place up for grabs.

They’ve had a week of rest and preparation ahead of this, one more than their opponents, so should be fresh and focused for the job at hand.

Star Man – Kasper Dolberg

Scored a brilliant brace in the win over Wales last week. Can he continue his hot form here?

     An evenly contested match

     Goals at both ends

Both teams will fight to the end

This is a game where, even though the two teams are ranked 30 places apart, we expect to see an even contest between the sides.

Whoever scores first won’t be able to rest on their laurels, and with both sides likely to fight to the very end.

Neither team conceded in the Round of 16, scoring six goals between them. Something’s got to give.

Denmark to win 3-2
