As a result, in his first competitive fixture in charge of the club, Antonio López Habas suffered his first Kolkata derby defeat, having previously gone unbeaten in five fixtures (4W, 1D).

​Interestingly, Habas named an all-Indian starting lineup, leaving the lone foreigner in the squad, Dani Ramírez, on the bench. Nevertheless, the Torchbearers played conservatively for the most part and defended resolutely, with Anwar Ali and Sandip Mandi marshalling the backline to deny Mohun Bagan any clear-cut opportunities as the two sides went into the break locked at 0-0.

​However, after conceding an early goal in the second half, East Bengal really started forcing the issue, boosted by the introductions of Vishnu and Dani Ramírez. They went on to create several chances, finishing with 11 attempts on goal in the second half compared to just two shots in the first. 

Thus the objective for Habas and his side will now be to be more proactive, and he may decide to start with Vishnu and Ramírez in the next game.
