Everton and Leeds find themselves in dangerous positions currently with both teams fighting it out for Premier League survival this season.

The Toffees took the bold step of sacking Frank Lampard and appointing Sean Dyche, an experienced operator at this level who can guide his players to safety in the second half of the season.

It will require them to win games such as this, at home and against teams around them in the table. Fail to with these sorts of matches and they won’t rise from their current position of 18th.

Leeds remain without a manager for their third consecutive game, although they gave an excellent account of themselves in two games against Manchester United.

You feel they will need to appoint a new manager in a similar mould to Sean Dyche if they are to survive this season.

Reasons to be cheerful:

     Lost just one of their last 10 meetings against Leeds

     Looking for back-to-back home wins for the first time this season

Reasons to be fearful:

     Lost 12 of their last 16 matches in all competitions

     Been beaten in four of their last five home games 

Everton earned their best win of the season against Arsenal two weekend ago, although they felt the full force of Liverpool in their next game, going down 2-0 in the Merseyside derby.

They gave a good account of themselves away to the Reds, although there are more important fixtures ahead, including this one. A win here would move them above Leeds and potentially ahead of West Ham into 16th.

That will be Sean Dyche’s plan and with almost half a season left, survival seems a realistic proposition. 

Here, however, they will miss Dominic Calvert-Lewin who just cannot stay fit. The striker has endured two seasons of injury and fitness issues that have coincided with his team’s troubles.

Goodison Park will be rocking here once again.

Star Man – Amadou Onana

Onana struggled against Liverpool’s midfield power last weekend, as did most of Everton’s team. At home to Leeds, you would think he’ll look to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

     Just two victories from their last 19 league games

     Failed to score in 10 of their last 14 games against Everton

Leeds gave an excellent account of themselves against Manchester United, despite claiming only a point from their two games against their old rivals.

The Yorkshire club remain in a dangerous position and so much rests on the appointment of their new manager. We’ve seen two clubs, Southampton and Bournemouth, appoint two inexperienced managers and go backwards.

Leeds’ record against Everton is poor recently, winning just one of their last 10 against their Merseyside opponents this weekend. 

In their favour, the away side have some talented attackers who can change the game in their favour.

Star Man – Wilfried Gnonto

Gnonto gave an excellent account of himself in two games against Manchester United, grabbing a goal and looking threatening at all times. He can be a difference maker in any game he plays.
