Antonio Conte became the latest manager to face the sack when the Premier League paused for the international break.

The Italian’s fiery tongue got him into trouble on more than one occasion and it seems that his latest outburst was enough for Daniel Levy to send him packing.

Tottenham remain in a decent league position, 5th in the league coming into this game, with the opportunity to go 3rd if they win. They will have played two games more than their rivals, however.

Everton remain in the bottom three despite a decent patch of recent form under Sean Dyche. With West Ham and Bournemouth earning wins this weekend, Everton must keep pace with their rivals.

Three points here would take them all the way up to 13th, showing just how tight those teams are near the bottom.

Everton have found some positive form in recent weeks, although they will need to continue that now the Premier League has resumed after the international break.

Impressive draws against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest came either side of a crucial win over Brentford, ensuring that they stay in the hunt for Premier League survival this season.

With so many teams packed so tightly near the foot of the table, three points could lift them by as many as five places.

Their home form has been excellent under Dyche and they will be confident about continuing that here. Their record against Tottenham is poor but their need is desperate.

Star Man – Abdoulaye Doucoure

Doucoure has stepped up for Everton in recent weeks, scoring twice and providing two assists from his last three appearances. His power from midfield can be a problem for opponents.

Tottenham’s decision to dispense with Antonio Conte’s services will definitely have an effect on the rest of their season – they will hope a positive one.

They remain comfortably within the race for the top four and will go into 3rd place if they win here, although they will have played two games more than Manchester United and Newcastle.

A chance of leadership could give the players a lift and remove some of the tension that was obviously among the group. 

They will head to Goodison Park with renewed optimism and in the knowledge that their record against Everton is excellent.

Only against Leicester (with 18) has Harry Kane scored more Premier League goals than Everton (14). As always, he’ll take Tottenham’s quest to get into the top four very seriously.
