Kerala Blasters look for a first away victory against FC Goa since 2016 when they travel to the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium this weekend. Goa have reduced the deficit at the top to just one point and a victory in the upcoming game could push Manolo Marquez’s team to become the new leaders. Kerala Blasters have been limping in away matches with the team only managing one victory from the last five on the road.

FC Goa Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Goa have seen much improvement defensively in recent games

Goa’s form has been outstanding with four wins in the last five

Reasons to be fearful

Apart from the game against Chennaiyin, Goa have struggled for goals in recent matches

There has not been a single big threat for the team with the goals spread across the team

FC Goa have done exceptionally well to close the gap at the top to just one point. Manolo Marquez’ have a wonderful opportunity to go top of the table by the end of the weekend. Goa have two games in hand over Kerala Blasters. They also have an exceptional home record against Kerala Blasters with five wins out of the last six.

Goa may be the third top scorers in the league with 10 goals from the first six matches, but they have only managed one goal in the two matches against Bangalore and Jamshedpur. There are also no injury concerns for Goa heading into the game.

Star man – Victor Rodríguez

Victor Rodriguez scored the second goal of this campaign after coming off the bench in the win over Jamshedpur. The 34-year-old brings a wealth of experience which will be crucial against an opponent like Kerala Blasters.

Kerala Blasters FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Kerala Blasters remain a powerhouse in front of goal

Dimitrios Diamantakos is just one goal away from being the top scorer in the league

Reasons to be fearful

The team are on a run of three away matches in the next four

Kerala Blasters have managed just one win in the last six games against Goa

Kerala Blasters have frequently struggled in away matches and it is a record that the team may not be interested in learning ahead of a tricky match against second-placed Goa. In the last six outings against Goa, Kerala Blasters have managed just one victory. They have also failed to beat Goa in any of the away games since 2016.

Even though coach Ivan Vukomanovic was pleased with a brilliant comeback against Chennaiyin, the team were defensively very poor.

Star man – Dimitrios Diamantakos

Dimitrios Diamantakos is the top scorer in the Kerala Blasters squad after getting four goals in the first six matches. The 30-year-old came up with a brilliant brace against Chennaiyin including an outstanding long-range effort to level the scores. He has scored in both of his games against FC Goa in the past.

Kerala Blasters picked up a victory in the recent away game but they have been far from convincing when moving away from the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi. Vukomanovic is up against a mountain to climb in terms of improving the club’s away performances. After the recent defensive performances against Chennaiyin, Kerala Blasters might be going for a defensive approach. This coupled with Goa’s recent struggle for goals could lead to a draw.
