In-form Fulham welcome inconsistent Everton to Craven Cottage
Fulham 2-2 Everton
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Fulham, London, Craven Cottage
Bet NowFulham have continued their remarkable run of form this season, a run that has taken them to 7th in the table and only three points off the top four.
They have kept the likes of Liverpool, Brighton, West Ham and other big clubs beneath them in the table and claimed some important victories along the way.
The Cottagers have scored goals aplenty so far this season and, while they’ve also conceded plenty too, they are a different proposition to how many people were expecting. Marco Silva has done a great job.
Everton have suffered from inconsistent form so far this season, but they have at least kept themselves clear of immediate relegation danger so far under Frank Lampard.
The team lost three on the bounce recently, but hit back with a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend.
Both teams will have reasons to believe they can win this one.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Only the top three teams have scored more goals
Won two of their last three against Everton
Reasons to be fearful:
Haven’t won three games consecutively this season
Everton will present a tougher challenge than Villa or Leeds
Fulham’s manager Marco Silva welcomes his former club to Craven Cottage this weekend with the Portuguese boss having taken charge of Everton for an 18-month period ending December 2019.
He made a fine start to life as Everton manager, guiding them to an 8th-place finish in his first full season in charge. Things fell away at the start of the next season and he was dismissed three months in.
He will have a point to prove here, especially having done such a good job so far at Fulham.
The Cottagers have been a breath of fresh air at times this season. Only Arsenal, City and Tottenham have scored more than their 22 goals this season, showing their qualities going forward.
Fulham have won two of their last three against Everton and will have expectations of continuing this run here.
Star Man – Aleksandar Mitrovic
The Serbian goes from strength-to-strength this season, having netted nine goals from 11 games. His goal against Leeds sparked Fulham’s comeback win.
Reasons to be cheerful
Thumping 3-0 win over Crystal Palace shows qualities
Calvert-Lewin’s first goal of the season provides optimism
Reasons to be fearful
Have scored half the number of goals as Fulham
Are too inconsistent to rise up the table
Frank Lampard can be pleased with the job he is doing right now at Everton.
Sure, there are going to be poor performances from the team this season. Yes, there will be spells where they go through consecutive defeats. However, there are also positives for fans to cling onto.
One of those is the return of Calvert-Lewin, who on his day can be one of the best strikers in the league. Everton have missed his presence and goalscoring ability upfront.
If the Toffees can use the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace as a springboard for the remainder of the season, they could continue their rise towards the top half.
A game against an in-form Fulham won’t come easily, however.
Star Man – Dominic Calvert-Lewin
The Englishman scored 21 goals the season before last, before his injury problems began. He netted only five times last season, but if he can stay fit, he could return to double figures this campaign.
Should be an entertaining game
Both teams to score
Mitrovic vs. Calvert-Lewin in battle of the strikers
This is a game that could be dominated by a tale of two strikers.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back for Everton and we know what a fine goalscorer he can be at the top of his game.
Aleksandar Mitrovic is finally proving himself in the Premier League, with nine goals to his name already.
It could come down to a moment of magic from either player, but both teams are evenly matched.
Fulham 2-2 Everton
