Phenomenal Manchester City head to Fulham after incredible win over Arsenal
Manchester City to win 3-1
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Fulham, London, Craven Cottage
Bet NowThis past week provided football fans around the world the chance to see the biggest game of the season unfold, as Manchester City hosted Arsenal with a chance to reel in their title rivals.
City, as we know they can do under Pep Guardiola, have been close to perfection over the last couple of months, and have tracked Arsenal down in ruthless fashion.
After their 4-1 win over the Gunners, City are now just two points behind top spot with two games in hand. We must also remember that they are chasing the Champions League and FA Cup in what would be a remarkable treble.
Fulham are their next opponents, with Marco Silva’s side currently holding onto a top half position, ahead of the likes of Chelsea.
Consistency has been the Cottagers’ biggest problem in recent times, with a patch of good form often followed by a spell of poor results.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Won their last home game
Can go above Brentford into 9th with victory
Reasons to be fearful:
Winless against City in their last 15 league meetings
Kept just one clean sheet in their last 29 against this weekend’s opponents
Fulham are the next club to have the unfortunate pleasure of facing the runaway train that is Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City right now.
There may well be some twists and turns in the title race, but City seem to sweep all before them when they get the faintest sniff of silverware.
Fulham need to believe that they can provide one of those twists, even though they’ve failed to win any of their last 15 against the current Premier League champions.
On the positive side, they won their most recent home game, and can go above Brentford with victory here.
However, they would need to be at their very, very best to even put a dent into this City team.
Star Man – Andreas Pereira
The former Manchester United midfielder knows all about facing Manchester City and should be fired up for this one. His performance levels have been consistently good throughout the season.
Reasons to be cheerful
Won their last 10 consecutive games against Fulham
Massive win over Arsenal proves that City are unstoppable right now
Reasons to be fearful
Still need to win their games in hand to overtake Arsenal
Nathan Ake remains out injured
Many predicted a Manchester City win over Arsenal in midweek, although it was expected to be a tighter clash at the Etihad than a 4-1 thrashing.
The gulf between the two teams emphasises just how good this Manchester City is – although Arsenal remain top of the league, it now seems only a matter of time before they are overtaken by last season’s Champions.
One concern heading into that game was that Nathan Ake would be missing, who has been great for City in a left-centre back role this season. Manuel Akanji – also exceptional – shifted across effortlessly.
Against Fulham, Pep will know that his players can’t afford to be complacent. The Cottagers represent a credible threat to their title hopes and City will need to keep their levels high to retain their current form.
Star Man – Kevin De Bruyne
The astonishing Belgian was given a standing applause as he left the field in midweek, his two goals and sensational all-round play the key to City’s dominance over the Gunners.
City to dominate possession
De Bruyne and Haaland to cause chaos
Fulham in with a shout if they frustrate City’s attack
The smart money would be on City’s exceptional winning form, which stands at seven games and counting in the league, to continue here.
That said, title races always have twists and turns and it wouldn’t be the first time that a team like Fulham has upset a team like Manchester City.
The hosts need to frustrate their opponents for as long as possible, and try and be as effective as possible on the break.
Everything is in City’s favour, however.
Manchester City to win 3-1
