Consistency has been the Cottagers’ biggest problem in recent times, with a patch of good form often followed by a spell of poor results.

Fulham are the next club to have the unfortunate pleasure of facing the runaway train that is Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City right now.

There may well be some twists and turns in the title race, but City seem to sweep all before them when they get the faintest sniff of silverware.

Fulham need to believe that they can provide one of those twists, even though they’ve failed to win any of their last 15 against the current Premier League champions.

On the positive side, they won their most recent home game, and can go above Brentford with victory here.

However, they would need to be at their very, very best to even put a dent into this City team.

Many predicted a Manchester City win over Arsenal in midweek, although it was expected to be a tighter clash at the Etihad than a 4-1 thrashing.

The gulf between the two teams emphasises just how good this Manchester City is – although Arsenal remain top of the league, it now seems only a matter of time before they are overtaken by last season’s Champions.

One concern heading into that game was that Nathan Ake would be missing, who has been great for City in a left-centre back role this season. Manuel Akanji – also exceptional – shifted across effortlessly.

Against Fulham, Pep will know that his players can’t afford to be complacent. The Cottagers represent a credible threat to their title hopes and City will need to keep their levels high to retain their current form.
