Fulham are hanging on the coattails of the teams above them, and gave their chances of survival a massive boost with a terrific win over Champions League chasing Everton last weekend.

Understandably, having spent much of their season inside the bottom three, their chances of remaining in the Premier League next season are slim, but of the teams currently in the relegation zone, they have the best chance of sneaking into 17th before the end of the season.

The Cottagers have lost just once from their last six matches and are seeking successive victories for the first time this season.

As for Sheffield United, their upturn of form has likely come far too late for hopes of a survival this season, having taken 18 matches to secure their first victory.

They have a good chance of overtaking 19th place West Brom this weekend, who travel to tough outfit Burnley, but making up 14 points to safety is surely a bridge too far.

Here, both sides must fight for their Premier League lives.

Fulham FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): DLDWD

Reasons to be cheerful:

Four points from their last two has given them real hope of survival

New signing Maja has hit the ground running up front

Reasons to be fearful:

Looking to avoid nine consecutive home games without a win

Have scored just once in previous seven home games

The Cottagers are the side most likely to survive from the bottom three right now, and have had their hopes boosted by the dreadful form of 17th placed Newcastle right now.

The Magpies go to Manchester United this weekend, and if that result goes in Fulham’s favour they could close the gap to just three points here.

There are a couple of fitness concerns, with Mitrovic isolating from coronavirus and Cairney injured. That hasn’t stopped them across the past week however, with four points taken from tough games against Everton and Burnley.

Fulham are enjoying the benefits of recruiting wisely this season, with Lookman, Loftus-Cheek and January signing Maja impressing of late.

Star Man – Josh Maja

Has two goals in his first three games as a Fulham player. Could he propel The Cottagers to safety?

Sheffield United FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): LWLWL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Recent wins over Man United and West Brom have drawn them closer to survival

Earned a draw with Fulham earlier in the season

Reasons to be fearful:

Despite better form, they’re still highly unlikely to climb to safety

Winless in their last five away visits to Fulham

With only 14 games of this season to go, Sheffield United’s hopes lie close to tatters. They’ve earned nine points from their last seven games, a tally which would have seen them comfortably safe if they had performed this well across the full season.

As it stands, they have surely left it too late, regardless of the outcome of this game.

Nonetheless, they will come into this match with a positive mindset, knowing that they will likely close the gap with a win as both West Brom and Newcastle face difficult opponents.

Unfortunately, the likes of Berge, Robinson, Egan, O’Connell and Fleck are all likely to be unavailable in a huge blow to their chances.

Star Man – Billy Sharp

The veteran goalscorer has four goals since the turn of the year, and The Blades will need every inch of his experience for the remainder of the season.

A game with huge consequences for both sides

Fulham have a genuine chance of avoiding drop

Sheffield United have to win at all costs

Anything other than a win for Sheffield United here would all but confirm their relegation this season.

Fulham, on the other hand, have a genuine opportunity to reach safety, but they can’t afford to lose this one, especially with Newcastle still within reach above them.

The Cottagers will fancy their chances here.

Fulham to win 1-0
