Our next London derby of the season sees Fulham take on Tottenham, with both clubs having on eye on European places in the league standings.

For Fulham, even just Premier League survival would beat the expectations of many at the start of the campaign. To be in the top half at the halfway mark is outstanding and they’ve beaten some top teams.

Whether they finish there is another question but they have plenty of quality throughout the team. What’s more, they’ll move ahead of their opponents if they claim victory here.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are stalling under Antonio Conte right now. Three wins from their last four in the league shows signs of a dispirited bunch of players and their manager needs more from them.

They are in danger of allowing the current top four to pull away if they can’t turnaround their poor run of form.

Fulham FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Could win their fourth London derby this season – a club record

Looking to win three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since 2012

Reasons to be fearful:

Lost 12 of their last 14 meetings with Tottenham

Game against Spurs is followed by another London derby against Chelsea

Fulham are not allowing themselves to look too far ahead, with their manager suggesting that their priority remains Premier League survival, despite sitting 7th in the league.

Marco Silva is continuing to be conservative about his side’s chances of upsetting the big teams and finishing in the top half of the league, even though they have an excellent chance of doing so.

It appears that, with Premier League survival almost assured – unless there is a shocking loss of form – Fulham’s players are more relaxed and their performances are showing that.

A third consecutive Premier League win – their best run since 2012 – would see them leapfrog their opponents and go into 5th.

The Cottagers won’t get carried away here, not least because of their dreadful record against Spurs over the years. They’ve lost 12 of their last 14 and all of their last six at home to Spurs.

Star Man – Aleksandar Mitrovic

The Serbian striker has scored in all four of his London derbies this season and now has 11 in total this campaign. His physicality can help bully Tottenham’s soft defence.

Tottenham Hotspur FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

     Exceptional record over Fulham

Harry Kane often scores in London derbies

Reasons to be fearful

Lost seven of their last 13 league games

Conceded most goals at this stage – 31 – since 2007/08 season

Tottenham’s troubles continue to build as the season progresses past the halfway stage. Spurs’ opening 20 games have been topsy-turvy to say the least.

Having shot off to a flyer, earning plenty of points despite not playing particularly well, Conte’s men have found that results have been harder to come by of late.

They’ve lost seven league games this season, all of them coming within their last 13 played. It’s a run that has seen them fall from being comfortably inside the top four to six points behind going into this game.

It wouldn’t take much for them to put themselves back into contention, but a winning run just doesn’t seem possible for these players right now.

They need a big performance here.

Star Man – Harry Kane

No one has scored more goals in London derbies than Harry Kane, who has seven goals in his six appearances against Fulham. He’s also one goal away from equalling the club record of 265 set by Jimmy Greaves.

Spurs are as likely to concede as they are to score

Kane and Mitrovic to have chances

Game could come down to final moments

Tottenham have to stop the rot at some point. The season is only halfway through and there is plenty that Spurs can still achieve if they start to put a run together.

A win here would certainly help in that respect although they won’t find it easy against a Fulham side in fine form.

It’s a game that could come down to the wire, and with Harry Kane you always have a chance.

Tottenham to win 2-1
