FULHAM FC vs WEST HAM UNITED FC Match Preview & Analysis

Fulham come into this match as the side to have currently gone longest without victory in the Premier League, an unwanted streak lasting 10 matches going into this fixture.

The Cottagers looked to be closing the gap to the teams above them despite this, though recent wins for Brighton, Burnley and Newcastle have all increased the unlikeliness of Fulham escaping relegation this season.

Here, they face a tough side against West Ham, but also an opportunity to improve in a London derby which will mean more to the fans than against most other sides.

West Ham are one of the most improved teams in the league this season. After coming close to going down at the end of the last campaign, they now sit on the cusp of 4th place, just two points behind a stuttering Liverpool side.

They’ll be licking their lips at the possibility of continuing their good run here.

Teams Preview

Fulham FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): LLDDL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Injured players Bobby Reid and Cavaleiro pushing for return after injury

Proven difficult to beat despite winless streak

Reasons to be fearful:

Winless in last 19 Premier League London derbies

Gap is now eight points to safety

Nothing would help Fulham more than three points against West Ham, but having now gone 10 matches without one, the chances of that happening here are rather slim.

Scott Parker will largely have a fully fit squad to choose from, including Bobby Reid who has been one of Fulham’s players of the season so far.

The Cottagers’ key test will be scoring enough goals, firstly to get a result from this match, and secondly to help them stay up. With 34 goals conceded, this is similar to West Ham, however their 17 goals scored is only half as good.

Forward players such as Mitrovic just haven’t pulled their weight consistently enough so far this season, and their failure to acquire a top quality centre forward could cost them a place in the Premier League.

Star Man – Bobby Reid

Has been a handful for teams all season, but can he spark Fulham’s campaign to life here?

West Ham United FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWWLW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Just one defeat, against Liverpool, in last seven league matches

Jesse Lingard enjoyed a dream debut against Villa

Reasons to be fearful:

Haven’t always performed well against teams near the top this season

Poor recent away record against London clubs

West Ham manager David Moyes will be delighted with his team’s recent form, having won seven of their last eight away matches at the start of 2021.

Their points tally of 38 is their highest at this stage of a season since 1986 when they went on to finish in a top-three position. There is much work to do before that can happen, but they’ll be optimistic nonetheless.

A huge positive for The Hammers was the debut performance of loan signing Jesse Lingard from Manchester United. The attacking midfielder scoring two goals in an energetic performance and will add quality to their squad for the rest of the season.

They are favourites here, but will be made to work by a desperate Fulham.

Star Man – Tomas Soucek

No midfielder has scored more goals than Soucek, if you exclude penalties. He’s had an unbelievable impact on West Ham this season

FULHAM FC vs WEST HAM UNITED FC Winning Prediction

     West Ham are favourites

Lingard could score for three league matches in a row

Fulham must be positive and look for chances

If West Ham are serious about securing a top four position this season, these are the types of matches which they must win.

With this being one of the most open seasons in recent years, several teams are vying for those lucrative spots, so West Ham must avoid slip ups in games like these.

Fulham will no doubt make it difficult for them, but The Hammers are favourites here.

West Ham to win 1-0
