The second semifinal of the FIFA Arab Cup pits Saudi Arabia against Jordan at the Al Bayt Stadium on Monday night (11 PM IST). The Green Falcons arrive after a hard-fought extra-time win over Palestine.

While Jordan cruised through with a narrow regulation-time victory against Iraq. With the world No.58 facing No.60, past results count for little—this one has all the makings of a tight, evenly matched battle.

Head-to-head Record: The rivalry is perfectly poised, with both sides locked at four wins apiece and two draws from their 10 previous meetings.

Saudi Arabia Preview

After their early exit in 2021, the Green Falcons have set the record straight in 2025, booking their semifinal spot with a gritty 2–1 extra-time win over a stubborn Palestine. It was a hard-fought contest, finally settled late on by winger Mohamed Kanno, whose goal in the dying minutes of extra time sealed Saudi Arabia’s passage into the semis.

Speaking of their journey, the Green Falcons came second in their group having lost their only game to Morocco while winning the remaining games comfortably versus Oman (2-1) and Comoros (3-1).

Hervé Renard would take positives from the road to the semis, with the last two matches giving Saudi Arabia the tough tests they needed before the big stage. That said, he’ll also have concerns—nine starters played almost every minute against Palestine, and fatigue could well shape how Monday’s semifinal unfolds.

One man who went the distance was Salem Al-Dawsari. Already the standout of the tournament with five assists and a goal—adding another assist in the last game—the Saudi talisman will once again be central to their hopes, though it remains to be seen how he copes with the extra minutes in his legs.

Saudi Arabia Probable Starting Lineup - Al Aqidi (Gk) ;  Majrashi, Al-Amri, Tambakti, Yahya, Al Juwayr, Khaibari,Mohamed Kanno, Al Dawsari, Al Buraikan, Aboulshamat.

Jordan Preview

In contrast to Saudi Arabia, Jordan have enjoyed a smoother path to the semifinals. They swept through the group stage with three wins, including a 3–0 rout of Egypt, and finished as the competition’s top scorers with eight goals.

The quarterfinal, though, was a sterner test, as Al-Nashama soaked up pressure against Iraq, weathering 21 shots before Ali Olwan calmly converted a penalty to seal the win. Now, 23 years on, led by the Moroccan manager Jamal Sellami, Jordan are back in the Arab Cup semis and dreaming of a first-ever final.

Quarterfinal hero Ali Olwan will once again be central to Jordan’s hopes on Monday against Saudi Arabia. The forward has led the line brilliantly, scoring in every game so far and racking up four goals—each from the spot. Penalties aside, his influence is undeniable, topping Jordan’s charts for shots with 11 attempts, a reminder that Olwan is never far from the action.

Jordan Probable Starting Lineup - Yazeed Abulaila; Abdallah Nasib, Yazan Al Arab, Saleem Obaid; Ahmad Assaf, Nizar Al Rashdan, Nizar Mahmoud Mardi, Mohannad Abu Taha; Yazan Al-Naimat, Ali Olwan, Amer Abu Jamous.

There’s recent history firmly in Jordan’s favour. Al-Nashama edged Saudi Arabia 1–0 in the last Arab Cup, a result that played a key role in the Green Falcons’ early exit, and they’ve since beaten them twice in World Cup qualifiers. With that psychological edge—and fresher legs going into this semifinal—Jordan look well placed to upset Saudi Arabia once again.
