Kuwait head into Matchday 2 with plenty of confidence after holding 34th-ranked Egypt to a spirited 1-1 draw. On paper, Jordan — ranked 66th — might seem a gentler test, but Al Nashama head into the clash buzzing after their impressive 2-1 win over the UAE. They’ll be eyeing back-to-back victories and a knockout berth when the sides meet this Saturday at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium at 4:30 PM IST.

Current Standings: Jordan currently tops the group C with three points, while Kuwait sits next to them with one point.

Head-to-head Record: Jordan leads the head-to-head battles winning five of the 18 matches with 10 draws and three defeats.

Kuwait Preview

Returning to the Arab Cup for the first time since 2012, Kuwait couldn’t have scripted a better opening statement. Al Azraq battled bravely to hold Egypt to a 1-1 draw, with Al-Hajeri’s towering second-half header sparking real belief.

The night, though, came with a sting — goalkeeper Alhoushan was sent off late for a second booking, and Egypt capitalised moments later with a penalty to level the score. Still, Kuwait will take plenty of positives from the display — they stood firm against 19 Egyptian attempts, created chances of their own, and even came close to a late winner when Daham’s strike forced a sharp save from the Egyptian keeper.

Mohamed Daham continues to be the heartbeat of Kuwait’s attack, just as he was in the World Cup qualifiers and the Mauritania clash. He delivered again when it mattered — creating two big chances, supplying three key passes, and taking the corner that produced the opener. He also fired three of Kuwait’s four shots on the night. Once again, Kuwait’s hopes will lean heavily on Daham’s spark.

Kuwait Probable XI - Abdulghafour (GK) ; Meshal, Sabah, Al-Hajeri, Awadi, Al-Dhefiri, Al-Enezi, Ayedh, Daham, Nasser, Majed.

Jordan Preview

Jordan lived up to their billing as title contenders with a strong start on the opening day, easing past a UAE side that was reduced to 10 men inside the first 20 minutes. Nashama wasted no time capitalising — Ali Olwan coolly converted the 20th-minute penalty, and Al-Naimat’s composed finish in the 63rd minute sealed a calm, confident opening win.

That said, the scoreline could easily have read 3-1, but Olwan missed a second penalty that would’ve put the result beyond doubt. Nonetheless, Jamal Sellami’s side now have a real chance to repeat their 2021 Arab Cup run. A win over Kuwait would put them on course to reach the knockouts again after finishing second in their group last time out.

The strike duo of Al-Naimat and Ali Olwan — who combined for 17 goals in World Cup qualifying — was always going to trouble opponents, and they’ve opened this campaign with goals straight away. Al-Naimat stood out with two key passes, three shots, and a sharp 78% passing accuracy in the final third. The pair will be expected to cause even more damage as the tournament rolls on.

Jordan Probable XI - Abulaila (GK) ; Nasib, Rosan, Obaid, Abu Taha, Sadeh, Adham Quraishi, Al-Rashdan, Ali Olwan, Al-Naimat, Ahmed Ersan.

Jordan will definitely head into the contest as favorites despite Kuwait putting on a valiant effort in the first match. Al Nashama headed into the tournament having scored 10 in their last five while conceding just 3, speaks volumes of their attack and defense.

And unlike Egypt, Jordan doesn't have key players missing. As a result we predict a win for Jordan on Saturday. However, it's worth noting that four of the last five marches featuring the teams have ended in draws.
