Leeds and Crystal Palace are two teams that are currently treading water just above the relegation zone, doing just enough to stay afloat but not quite enough to pull away altogether.

Leeds are a point closer to the bottom three, although have a two-point gap to 18th place. With the likes of Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leicester all losing their games this weekend, Leeds can pull clear.

To do that, they’ll need to beat a team two places and a point better off than them currently. Leeds’ home form has been good recently, which provides optimism.

Crystal Palace enjoyed the return of Roy Hodgson, now in his second spell as Eagles manager. Prior to their win over Leicester, they had lost four in a row but that three points has given them encouragement.

Now, they have the opportunity to pull six points clear of danger and regain 12th spot.

Leeds United Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have claimed seven points from the last nine available at home

Won their last seven home games against Crystal Palace in all competitions

Reasons to be fearful:

Although they have lost their last nine against teams from London

Palace beat Leeds at Selhurst Park earlier this season

One of the many teams to have sacked their manager this season, Leeds have enjoyed a bounce that comes when a new boss arrives.

Javi Gracia has turned the ship at Elland Road in recent weeks, with the team winning three of their six games under the new boss, as many as they had from their previous 22 fixtures.

Indeed, their form at Elland Road has largely been good this campaign. They’ve collected 20 of their 29 points at home and have their excellent home crowd to thank for some of their performances.

They’ve started to score goals and create chances again too. They have nine goals from their last four matches and had 21 shots on target against Nottingham Forest in midweek – their highest this season.

Star Man – Jack Harrison

Harrison has been at the forefront of Leeds’ fightback in recent weeks, and can score for the third consecutive home game here.

Crystal Palace Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Hodgson’s return seems to have boosted Palace

Their powers of recovery have been excellent in games

Reasons to be fearful

Will be without Zaha due to injury

Hodgson has lost five of his six league games against Leeds

Crystal Palace brought in Roy Hodgson to keep them safe at the end of the season and that looks like the direction they are travelling towards.

They won their first game under the former England manager last weekend, meaning they have now won a league-high 17 points from losing positions this season.

It shows their powers of recovery, which have also seen them snatch draws from the likes of Manchester United this campaign.

They must score more goals however. They’ve scored just four second-half goals this season, while they’ve also failed to score any in the first half in 2023.

The Eagles will also miss talisman Zaha, who picked up a groin injury last weekend.

Star Man – Eberechi Eze

Eze is a talented player who first came to the fore under Hodgson’s management. With Zaha out of the team through injury, Eze needs to step up to the mark.

     Could be an end-to-end game

Leeds will push on for victory

A draw would suit Palace more

With each team only having three or four home games remaining this season, they become even more important for those teams near the bottom to make the most of.

Leeds know the power of playing at Elland Road and they will push on for another victory under Javi Gracia.

A point wouldn’t be the end of the world for Crystal Palace, especially without Zaha, but they will find Leeds difficult to cope with.
