With one Premier League manager being sacked this week, another may be fearing for his job before long.

Steven Gerrard was relieved of his duties by Aston Villa after a 3-0 battering by Fulham in midweek, with the club level on points with the bottom three.

Leeds are no better off than Aston Villa right now, sharing the same number of points, albeit having played a game fewer. Jesse Marsch needs to turn things around quickly to lift some of the pressure off his shoulders.

On the other hand, Fulham are marching up the Premier League table, thanks largely to that impressive win over Villa.

While the London club only have two wins from their last six, they are scoring enough goals and earning enough points to mount a consistent challenge for the top half right now.

The Cottagers know that this won’t be easy of course. Leeds are a different beast at Elland Road and it’ll be a tough game.

Leeds United Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Often perform better at Elland Road

Eight of their nine points have come at home

Reasons to be fearful:

Seven games without a win, including three consecutive defeats

Times have never been tougher for Jesse Marsch

The club has apparently backed manager Jesse Marsch to continue in his post for the meantime, although the pressure will continue to ramp up if Leeds’ fortunes do not change.

On the positive side, Leeds perform significantly better at Elland Road than they do away from home, backed up by the fact that they have earned eight of their nine points at home.

Those points have come from wins against Chelsea and Wolves, although they have fallen away in recent times.

Patrick Bamford is yet to set the world light upfront, but he requires time as he recovers from serious injuries.

The manager wants his team to play with more intensity, although this is not always the answer. Their opponents have been successful, in part, due to their better organisation on the pitch.

They must find that here, otherwise the consequences could be disastrous.

Star Man – Patrick Bamford

The England striker needs his first goal since returning from injury to boost his confidence, as well as his team’s fortunes. He needs better service from those behind him, of course.

Fulham FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Playing with great confidence right now

Win over Villa was their biggest Premier League win in nine years

Reasons to be fearful

Have lost three of their last four away games

Other than the Villa win, Fulham have struggled to keep clean sheets

Fulham’s win over Aston Villa summed up the difference between the two teams right now – one that is playing with confidence and one that isn’t.

The promoted club have largely been excellent this season, under the management of Marco Silva. It helps to have Mitrovic firing upfront, but the likes of Pereira, Reed and Leno in goal have been superb at times.

To sum it up best, Dan James, who signed from Leeds in the summer, cannot even get regular gametime at Fulham, such is the quality already on the pitch. Ironically, Leeds could use him right now.

Like Leeds, Fulham are a better team at home, and have lost three of their last four away from Craven Cottage. They’ve also conceded 20 goals in the league so far, with only three teams conceding more.

They will need to tighten up here.

Star Man – Aleksandar Mitrovic

Mitrovic is arguably as important to Fulham as Haaland is to Manchester City, or Gabriel Jesus is to Arsenal. All of Fulham’s best play involves him and he now has eight goals in 10 appearances.

     Could be an end-to-end game

Plenty of chances in front of goal

Both sides will go looking for the win

With the defensive records of these two not being the best, we could see a few goals go in here.

Leeds need three points to lift some of the pressure on their shoulders, while Fulham are playing with enough confidence to go for the victory themselves.

The home side are much better at Elland Road, but you fear for them if they concede first. Fulham, and Mitrovic, are in top gear right now and you wouldn’t back against them winning this one.
