Manchester City know that they are in a fight for the title this season, with Arsenal continuing to hold onto the top spot with everything they have.

Despite the five-point gap between themselves and Arsenal, many pundits predict that City will retain their title come the end of the season, a prediction which does the Gunners some discredit.

City will need to be at their best to put together the kind of run that will see them topple the North London side. Starting here, you would expect Pep Guardiola’s team to turn up the heat.

Leeds have played in fits and starts under Jesse Marsch this season. Inconsistent throughout, the ended the first part of the season with two wins and three defeats from their last five games.

With only two points separating them and the relegation zone, there is much work to do to secure their Premier League status for another season.

The atmosphere will be red-hot at Elland Road and Leeds will need their fans in fine voice to spur them on here.

Leeds United Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have won three of their seven home games this season

Scored seven goals in their last two games

Reasons to be fearful:

One goal away from conceding 70 goals in 2022 – a new record

Lost 11-0 over both league games at City last season

Like many clubs near the foot of the Premier League table, the restart of the competition provides an opportunity to refocus for the remainder of the season.

Since returning to the Premier League under the management of Marcelo Bielsa nearly three years ago, Leeds’ main problem has been consistency.

Scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for the club, although conceding them certainly has. They are one away from setting a new record for goals conceded in a calendar year.

If that continues, they will be lucky to avoid relegation. Against City, they cannot afford to be so open at the back, but you wonder just how they’ll be able to keep their opponents out.

In their two games against City last season, they lost 7-0 and 4-0. You fear a similar scoreline might come about here.

Star Man – Rodrigo

The Spanish striker scored in four consecutive games for Leeds before the World Cup. Having not been part of Spain’s squad, he should be fit and fresh for Leeds here.

Manchester City FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Looking for three consecutive wins against Leeds

Were fantastic going forward against Liverpool in midweek

Reasons to be fearful

Not scored from open play in last four away games

The likes of Dias, Phillips and Alvarez are still absent for City

If we ever needed a reminder of City’s firepower, we were given a taste during their 4-3 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

That victory put them on course for the Quarter Final in that competition, although they now turn their sights back to the Premier League, where they have some ground to catch up on Arsenal.

City are rather unique in that they are the only team in 13 years to win the Premier League without being top at Christmas. In 2014, 2019 and 2021 they’ve overturned a gap to the top and are experts in doing so.

They know they have the firepower to pull together an impressive winning run but they can’t afford any mistakes, especially in games such as these.

Star Man – Erling Haaland

Made up for not going to the World Cup by scoring within 10 minutes of his first game in five weeks. He now has 24 goals in 19 appearances this season.

Both sides will attack at full throttle

Leeds don’t have the capability to keep City out

     Haaland to score yet again?

Although any team has the capacity to beat any opponent in the Premier League, it seems hard to believe that Leeds can keep this Manchester City side from scoring.

If the Elland Road fans are in full voice, which they will be, they can inspire Leeds to give it a good go and cause City’s backline some problems.

However, with the attacking power that City possess, they are capable of outscoring any opponent.
