Fellow strugglers Leicester and Bournemouth meet in relegation scrap
Leicester to win 1-0
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Leicester, King Power Stadium
Bet NowThere are several appealing games happening across this round of fixtures, but none are quite as important as this one.
Leicester and Bournemouth both find themselves trapped inside the bottom three and face relegation unless they can find a lift from somewhere over the remaining nine games.
The Foxes sacked Brendan Rodgers at the weekend after they were defeated by Aston Villa. Rodgers has long been seen as doing a decent job with the players that he had at his disposal but his time has run out.
Interim boss Adam Sadler is now charged with picking up the confidence of the squad and trying to claim a precious three points.
Bournemouth are in just as much trouble, although they have stuck with manager Gary O’Neil until this moment.
The Cherries have enjoyed better form than their opponents in recent times, earning six points from the last 12 available.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Change of management should lift the players
Jonny Evans could make a return from injury
Reasons to be fearful:
Lost their last two against Bournemouth
No wins from their last six in the league
As one of the more experienced managers operating in the Premier League, Brendan Rodgers was fancied to keep Leicester up this season.
Despite their poor run of form in recent times, there is still a feeling that Leicester are too good a team to go down, although they need to pick themselves up quickly.
As often happens when a manager departs, the players raise their performance levels due to increased pressure and attention. A win here could lift them as high as 14th.
They must overcome a poor record against Bournemouth, having lost their last two against the Cherries.
Star Man – James Maddison
While Jamie Vardy has a good record against Bournemouth over his career, his influence on this team is waning. Maddison has dragged Leicester along this season but they need one final push from him here.
Reasons to be cheerful
Back-to-back wins against Leicester
Victory would likely take them outside bottom three
Reasons to be fearful
Conceded the most away goals this season
And they’ve lost 10 of their 14 games away from the Vitality Stadium
Of the two teams, Bournemouth are the more likely to face the drop this season due to the difficulty newly promoted teams have at staying up.
They also have an inexperienced manager in Gary O’Neil, although he has done a respectable job with the players he has at his disposal.
That said, they have claimed two important wins from their last four, both against top half teams in Liverpool and Fulham.
Their away record doesn’t make for pleasant reading however, having lost 10 of their 14 games on the road, winning just twice. With Tottenham being their next fixture, they badly need something here.
Star Man – Dominic Solanke
Between them, Solanke and Billing have scored or assisted 10 of Bournemouth’s 12 away league goals this season, showing their lack of options upfront.
Leicester should respond to Rodgers sacking
Forward quality of Maddison and Barnes should pay off
Solanke and Billing could hurt Leicester at the other end
Leicester and Bournemouth are struggling so much right now that it’s difficult to imagine either of them staying up on their current form.
Leicester have the better players – arguably good enough to be in the top half, never mind in the bottom three – although their confidence is on the floor right now.
Bournemouth can’t keep a clean sheet to save their lives but in Solanke and Billing they do have pace and power upfront.
Leicester to win 1-0
