Leicester leapfrogged Liverpool at the weekend with another fantastic win over Southampton, putting their opponents down with a fine 2-0 victory.

In terms of wins, that’s 11 now for the season, the same number as top team Manchester United and are 3rd in the league, two points off the top.

It’s no more than Leicester deserve after continuing their excellent winning form, five from the last eight matches in the league, and are sure to be challenging for the top four spots again in May. They must first overcome Chelsea, however, a team who Brendan Rodgers has failed to beat in 15 games as a manager.

Chelsea returned to winning ways last time out, narrowly beating Fulham in a tight contest which took them to 7th in the table.

Despite this, there overall form is not great and must continue to improve in order to challenge for places further up the table.

Leicester City Preview

Form Guide (all comps): DDWWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Hopeful at having Jamie Vardy fit to play

Leicester are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Chelsea

Reasons to be fearful:

Their home form is only the 9th best in the league

Manager Rodgers has never beaten Chelsea

Leicester will have faith that their medical staff can prepare Jamie Vardy in time for this one, the star striker continuing to suffer from a long-standing hip injury which saw him substituted in their last game.

Despite this, Leicester have a number of players in top form, with English duo Harvey Barnes and James Maddison impressing in front of goal lately.

They have shown in matches against big teams this season that they are more of a match for them, recently drawing against Manchester United and beating Tottenham in the league.

The Foxes will be full of confidence, particularly at seeing how Chelsea have struggled to win matches lately – Lampard’s team’s spirit may have been dampened by their mixed form recently.

As they play before the two Manchester clubs, Leicester have the opportunity to go top, albeit perhaps temporarily with a win.

Star Man – James Maddison

If Jamie Vardy is not fit to play the whole game, Maddison is more than capable of making things tick for Leicester.

Chelsea FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): LDLWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Back-to-back wins in league and cup will boost confidence

Leicester’s home form hasn’t been great

Reasons to be fearful:

Winless in five games against teams above them in the table

Big signing Werner has gone 10 games without a goal

Lampard’s Chelsea have been up and down in terms of form this season, at one stage looking like a side who would challenge for the title, but now eight points adrift from the top after some mixed form.

With just two wins from their last seven league matches, they’ve fallen well off the pace near the top of the table. They’ve struggled to win against the big sides, and haven’t won any against teams currently above them in the league.

Goals have been harder to come by – in only two of their last nine matches have they scored more than a single goal. Timo Werner’s poor form hasn’t helped, with the German going 10 matches without netting.

They will have to be right on their game against a red-hot Leicester.

Star Man – Mason Mount

Has been one of Chelsea’s better performers lately, and got the winner against Fulham in midweek.

Will be a tight game, though Leicester are slight favourites

     Both sides likely to score

     Even possession

In games between big sides, such as these two clubs, often one or two moments of quality can separate them.

Leicester have been finding those moments more often this season, but Chelsea are capable of them too.

If Jamie Vardy is fit and ready to play, that would be a huge boost to Leicester, however this one could end up all square.
