Leicester appeared to have turned a corner by beating Nottingham Forest 4-0 two games ago. That win lifted them off the bottom of the table and the smiles had returned to Brendan Rodgers and his players.

Now, after a 2-1 defeat by Bournemouth, they find themselves back where they started – at the bottom of the table and dejected.

Leicester now have two home games on the bounce, here against Crystal Palace and against Leeds later on this week. You feel they must pick up maximum points from these games otherwise Rodgers could lose his job.

Crystal Palace eased their own situation last weekend by coming out victorious over Leeds at home. Their 2-1 victory was only their second win of the season, and saw them pull away from the bottom three.

Patrick Vieira’s team haven’t been great either this season, but they have at least been harder to beat than their opponents here.

Leicester City Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have won their last three home games against Palace

Were victorious in their last home game against Forest

Reasons to be fearful:

     Can’t build any momentum currently

Have the worst defensive record in the league

After 10 minutes of their match against Bournemouth last weekend, Leicester were leading 1-0.

The signs were looking positive for the Foxes, having beaten Nottingham Forest in their previous game. They were looking the better side, and the odds were that they would go on to take six points from six.

Fast-forward to the end of the game, and once against Leicester were at the end of a depressing defeat. In the second half, they allowed Bournemouth to come back into the game and eventually take all three points.

It was a bitter blow for Brendan Rodgers to take, and you wonder how he’ll motivate his players to turn their form around.

This game is absolutely key to that, being a home game against a team that Leicester have a good record against.

Star Man – Patson Daka

The striker scored the opening goal in his team’s defeat to Bournemouth last weekend. Daka now has three goals and one assist in his past four league games for Leicester.

Crystal Palace Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Four very winnable fixtures in October

Win over Leeds will have boosted confidence

Reasons to be fearful

Poor record against Leicester in recent seasons

Inconsistency likely to continue this season

Crystal Palace look like a team destined to spend life in the bottom half of the table this season.

With a young, developing coach like Patrick Vieira, and a squad that is still searching for its best form, there are bound to be ups and downs throughout the campaign.

They have the players to make it easier for themselves, though. Palace are a little too close to the bottom three for their own liking, but they now have a more favourable run of fixtures to turn that around.

Including Leicester, their next seven games before the World Cup are games that Palace could take something from.

The question is how will they perform away from home? Both of their wins have come at Selhurst Park, and they’ve only claimed two points from their three games on their travels.

Star Man – Wilf Zaha

Has scored seven and been directly involved in nine goals against Leicester over the years, a record for Zaha.

Could have an end-to-end feel about it

Leicester are a better team at home

     Palace to show their inconsistency

On paper, this game should be a cracker.

At their best, these two teams have top players who can light up any game, and should be challenging far higher up the table than they currently are.

This game will be tight. However, being so desperate for points right now, Leicester are likely to be the team that comes out on top, especially with their home advantage.
